There are now 2500 people on the Oregon side of the river, within 10 miles of the dam. Cascade Locks is the nearest town, and the ouly town within miles of the dam on the Oregon side of the river. Completion of the dam should mean the beginning of a new industrial era. Cascade Locks has been a splendid town in the past, should be an important business center on the river and highway in the future. It is not a boom town.
