Yet he is ready night or day to rush at
the alarm of fire. He la a minute
man, ever on the alert to protect yow

demon fire. The local fire department
will hold its annual ball at Pythian
hall next Thursday evening. All of us
who can ahould attend that party and
by our presence let the Are lads know
we appreciate them. If we cannot be
there, we ahould at least buy tickets.
, Our fire department has just taken
a decirive action that should bring
them further commendation. It is
very easy for an organisation such as
the fire deiMrtment to fall Into the
habit of lending Its prestige to various
moneymaking, schemes, sneh as carni
vals, and gain a pittance from the act.
Hereafter, however, the Hood River
Volunteer Fire 1 tepartment will have
nothing to do with such schemes. Its
activities wIU he limited to the annual
l>all. And t hat ball should be made a
very worth while party.
