Plans of the Hood River aad Yaki
ma, Wash., chambers of commerce, call
for an early conference In Portland
with the chamber of commerce there
for the purpose of petitioning the In
dian department of the federal govern
ment for aid in constructing the Hood
Rlver-Yskima cut-off highway across
the Indian reservation. The proposed
new route, which passes from White
Salmon to Glenwood, and thence across
the Big Muddy river into the reserva
tion, is only 106 milea long. It euta an

distance.
Seventy-two miles of the Preset™1
highway are in the Indian reserva
tion. The Indian department, already
broached on the matter of aid for the
highway by the Yakima chamber, ap
peared favorable.
Agitation for the short cut highway
