by use of tax money.
And the -money that goes into an
experiment station for discovering the
beat processes for producing Oregon
crops is not a gift, but an investment.
—The Oregon Journal.
Not heedful of the substautial ma-
Jogity by which the people voted
down the state income tax, a new bill
is to be presented to the incoming
legislature. Senator Tooxe, of Clack
amas county, is to offer a bill to
raise taxea by a levy on incomes in
addition to the other taxea and the
federal Income tax system. The bill
is made up of the ruins of the ope
that was vetoed by the popular vote
on a referendum, and looks like try
ing to reverse the popular vote.
The rate of taxation under the
proistsed measure would lie 10 per
cent of each *1000 of taxable income
for the first *5000, 15 per cent on
cadi *1000 of taxable income on the
second *.->000, 20 per cent on each
*1000 of taxable Income for the third
*5ooo, 25 per cent on each *1000 of
taxable income op the fourth *5000,
and 30 per cent on each *1000 of tax
able Income over *20,000. Exemptions
would lie *750 for a single person
and *1500 for a married person or
head of a family, with on additional
allowance of *200 for each dependent.
