“Automobile owners are divided in
to three classes as regards cost infor
mation. First there is the man who
says bo doesn’t want to know what
it coats because it might give him a
headache and anyhow the car Is a
necessity. Another type of. owner
makes spasmodic and half-hearted
attempts to get the facts. Finally,
there are the few who keep records
of upkeep and operation.
"A. L. Beedle, of the Beedie Equip
ment Company, Cincinnati, belongs
in the third class. A prospective
buyer wrote Mr. Beedle recently ask
ing his experience with the Jewett
Six and the Cincinnati owner replied
with a detailed statement of car ex
pense. At the time his Jewett tour
ing had been driven 9,100 miles in
seven months.
"Cost per mile to own the car, in
cluding depreciation, interest, garage,
insurance and taxes, was 4.95 cents.
Cost to run was figured at a fraction
over three cents, making a total coat
of 7.98 cents per tulle. Mr. Beedle
incidentally had a great many g<x>d
things to My about - the performance
of his Jewett.
“These figures check closely with
the reports of many others and es
pecially with an investigation cover
ing 30 Jewett cars in Utica. N. Y.
It was found that these Jewetts av
eraged eight cents per mile Including
all expense. The allowance for de
preciation was four cents per mile,
which is amply high.
“It is evident from these facts that
Jewett owners do not nets] to worry
about car expense and tliat they are
Mvfng at least one or two cents per
mile in repair bills required by less
well built cars.”
