What was once the world's largest individual apple orchard, .3,600 acres in area, will be sold at sheriff's sale. A decree of foreclosure was signed Sat urday by Judge Wilson to this effect in the caee of the Dufur Orchard Owners' Company. The foreclosure is part of the general plan of reorganization adopted by creditors of the orchard company. At the sale the W ashington securi ties Company will hid on the property, acting for the mortgage lien holders. according to the plan of reorganization adopted at a meeting of creditors. In tbe event the securities company is the successful bidder, a new company will be formed to be known as the Dufur OrchardCompany, and stock will be is sued to the creditors at the old com pany on the pro-rata basis. Snow Causes Delay The snowstorm caused but slight de lay in shipping apples from the Hood River Valley last week. Up to Satur day night the Apple Growers Associa tion for the week shipped lUa.448 boxes, 'making the season's total 757, 458 boxes. Last week but 30,135 boxes were received by the cooperative agency, biinging the total receipts for tbe season to l.lVi.AlA. The supply of refrigerator cars re mains adequate, and apples are rolling in a steady stream from the city as well as from points on the line of tbe Mount Hood R. R. Christmas Cheer Box to be Sent A committee of the Hood River American Legion Auxiliary is seeking a Christmas Cheer Box for the patients of the Portland Ex-Service Men s hos pital. Boxs of apples, books, socks. subscriptions to magazines and dain ties are being sought as Christmas presents for the ill ex-service boys. Members oi tne committee are: Mrs. F. C Wittenberg. Mrs. L. N. Blowers, Mrs. Harold Hershner and Mrs. A. C. Lewis. The women urge that the donors to the box have their gifts assembled be fore December 18. Those who wish to make gifts are asked to telephone any member of the committee. Schaffners Plan Long Trip Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Schaffner will leave Saturday for a visit with rela tives and friends in Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and New York City. February 3 they will vail from New York City for Rio de Janeiro, where they will see tbe Brazilian exposition. "From Brazil, says Mr. Schaffner, we will take a boat to Buenos Ayres. We will cross the Andes from there by rail to Valparaiso, Chile. Thence we will travel by boat up the Panama Canal zone, where we will catch an other boat for Los Angeles.
