Peters, of Wenatchee, Wn., presented the follow ing at the Growers convention held recently at Spokane: Proper thinnine will preserve soil fertility over a longer period of the tree's life. It is the seed of the apple mat exnausts sou rertinty. and tree itality and not the fruit itself. ProD- er thinning keeps the tree normal over much longer period, froper thinnin win not reauce yield, froper thinning will greatly increase the percentage of extra fancy fruit. Proper thinninir win reauce iancy. c-grade. lumb ea and culls. Proper thinning makes dos- ible the control and extermination of the codling moth, for it ia impossible force spray in clusters. Proper ininmng reduces windfalls and drop page in picking. Proper thinninir re duces tne cost or picking, sorting. packing and the paper bill. Proper thinning makes possible the greatest amount or color. 1'roper thinning will encourage regular, annual bearing. Proper thinning will advance harvest one full week. Proper thinning will result in obtaining the highest prices. Proper thinning gets the grower the best help. Growers will not keep properly thinned apples long; buyers want the growers to keep the little apple a long time. J. B. Lister.
