SALVAGING PLANS
FOR BIG ORCHARD
l-ollowinif a hearing in circuit court
at The Dalles last week, plans of re
organization submitted for reoragniza
tion of The Dufur Orchard Company
Owners Company were adopted and
preliminary arrangements were or
dered by Judge Fred W. Wilson. Lia
bilities of the company reach $443,858.
The orchard concern now holds 3,600
acres of land near Dufur. The court
is now acting in the capacity of re-
cevership. Under plans of reorganiza
tion the Washington Securities Co., of
Portland, will bid for the property at
the sheriff a sale under agreement with
the creditors. If the property is ob
tained at such sale, a new company, to
be known as the Dufur Orchard Co.,
will be formed, and stock and bonds
will be issued to the creditors on a pre
determined basis. Ihe entire plan, it
is said, is to prevent sacrifice of the
property whereby probably only a
small amount 01 the actual value of it
would be realized.
The plan also insures the continued
operation of the west half of the or
enaru, comprising i,uu acres, it is
proposed to clear the remainder and
sell it for wheat land. The land, it is
said, will realize not less than $50 per
acre, ihe west 1,800 acres will be
parceled out in orchard tracts at $200
per acre, ihus it is declared that sut
ficient funds may be realized to liquid
ate the indebtedness. The west half
of the bis: orchard, it is stated, has
been properly maintained and com
prises an excellent orchard property.
ihe reorganization plans call for the
issuance of receiver s certificates in
the sum of $70,000 to provide a fund
for grubbing out. the trees on the east
half of the orchard and for caring for
and marketing the crop on the west
half. The certificate will be a first
lien on the 11)22 crop.
The Columbia Tire Corporation will
break ground this month for its unit
number oneits output $3,500,000 year
ly. With this announcement comes
the fact that Oregon is to have a new
payroll institution that will employ
several hundred men as soon as the
first unit is completed. This payroll
will mount up to $000,000 per year.
The Columbia Tire Corporation is an
Oregon company composed of Oregon
men with Oregon money with the home
office and factory in Portland.
The careful business man when he is
told that some of the most credible
business men of Oregon and men of
national reputation as to ability and
experience in the tire manufacturing
business are in a new and extensive
payroll producing institution, recog
nize that the state i6 expending along
right lines.
Here ate a few of the items that the
payroll of the first unit, amounting to
$600,000,; will buy: Food, 34.3 per
cent. $205,800: clothing, 16.1 percent.
$96,600; furniture, 6.1 per cent, $36,
600; housing, 12.8 per cent, $76,800;
fuel and light, 4.9 per cent, $29,400;
amusement, 4.2 per cent, $37,200, and
miscellaneous, 19.6 per cent, $117,600.
It is intended to have the plant ready
for operation by the middle of the
summer for the turning out of Oregon
made automobile tires.
Here are suiuolof the facts that lead
one to expect That the second manufac
turing unit will be needed before the
new factory is a year old. The out
put of the 500 tires and 500 tubes per
day will be about $3,500,000 per year.
Oregon uses $16, 000,000 of tires annu
ally. Oregon and Washington use
$42,000,000 of tires annually. Ore
gon's trade territory use $60,000,000 of
tires annually. I he Pacific coast ter
ritory uses $180,000,000 of tires annual
ly. This business is growing at the
rate of 10 per cent per year, both
pneumatic and solid tires of only the
highest quality will be made, there
no other concern west oi uie Miss
issippi river making solid tires.
The factory will be erected on an
eight acre sight in Kenton district,
Portland. It will be a two story rein
forced concrete' and steel structure 350
feet long. The designs for the plant
provides for four wings.
Oflicers of the concern are It. A.
Wursburg, pres.; Alfred A. Aya, vice
pres. ; Louis Wyman, treas. ; K. C.
Mohardt, sec. K. H. Brown, formerly
superintendent of the Kelly-Spring-tield
tire factory, will be the superin
tendent of the new plant. H. S. Kiley
is representing the Columbia Tire Cor
poration in this territory.
A number of local men, among them
men of substantial financial reputa
tion, are interested in the new concern.
lt is worthy to note that the Colum
bia Tire Corporation of Oregon is both
morally and financially supported by
some of Hood Kiver's foremost busi
ness men.
It is further proof that Hood Kiver
people fully realize the need and im
portance of bringing a major industry
into Oregon, not only because it will
provide more payrolls and increase the
demand for farm products, but be
cause it will make property values
more stable.

Renew Your Motor's Vitality
That old expression of workmen, whose occomplish
ments on your wares or your machines make them like new
again, to use their own expression, is much overworked.
But it is a fact that the reborinp; of cylinders of auto
mobile motors restores them to their normal power.
The little increase in the size of the rebored motors
does not increase the power, but the fact that the motors
are put in the condition in which, presumably, they left
the factory, often accounts for what owners justly claim
to be a noticeable increase in power.
We have the most up-to-date facilities for reboring
your cylinders.
