Coe Denies Mitchell Story Henry C. Coe, whote father, Na thaniel Coe, was the founder of Hood River, having come here in early days when the Indians called the place Dog River, has written from his present home at Manhattan Beach, Calif., to brand as complete fiction a story that was recently told bv Ben Simpson, of Portland, to the elfect that Mitchell, pinoeer woodcutter, for whom the rock promontory through which the famed Columbia River Highway tunnel is bored, wih killed by Indians in the Cascades Massacre. Mr. Coe writes that the Cascades fight occurred long before Mitchell lived at the foot of the giant cliff. He also states that no battle between the Indians and whites ever occurred on the south side of the Columbia. Families Leave for South The annual pilgrimage of local or chard families to southern California for the winter has begun with the close of apple packing. Eight couples have left for the south this week, all traveling by automobile. At least 50 families will leave during the month of December or immediately following the Christmas holidays. The most of the California travelers will make the trip by automobile. A Timel) Suggestion This is the season of the year when the prudent and careful housewife re pleniehes her supply of Chamberlain's i oUL'h Remedy. It is almost certain to lie needed before the winter is over and results are much more prompt and satisfactory when it is kept at hand and given as soon as the first indica tion of a cold appears and before it has become settled in the system. There is no danger in giving it to chil dren as it contains no opium or other harmful drug. Notice to Creditors In the County Court of the State of Oregon, for Hood kiver County.
