DR. J. WILLIAMS
DIES VERY SUDDENLY
Funeral' services for Dr. Josephua
Williama, aged 71 and native of Ohio,
were held from the family residence in
the West Side orchard district, .Satur
day mornine, Rev. Gabriel S kes, Das-
tor of Asnury Methodist church, offi
ciating. Interment followed at Jdle
wilde cemetery. Members of the Ma
sonic LodfN acted as pallbearers and
the Masonic funeral rites were ob
served. An escort of the Grand Army
accompanied the body and observed
ritualistic services at the graveside.
Or. Williams, who moved with his
family at the ae of six to Iowa, died
suddenly Wednesday night from a heart
attack. Ilia death came as a great
shock to his family and friends.
Or. Williams served during the Civil
war with Company G, 47th Kegiment
of Iowa Infantry. After the war he
was married to Miss Charlotte M
Conger, who survives. Or. and Mrs
Williams celebrated their 50th weddintr
anniversary three years ago. Or. Will
iarns attended medical schools at Keo
kuk, la., and at Omaha, Nebr. He
practiced his profession for 27 years
at Kenesaw, Mebr. tie and Mrs.
Williams moved here 14 years ano.
Mrs. V. C. lirosius is the only surviv
ing daughter of Or. Williams.
The funeral was directed by S. K.
Hartrnesa.

Representatives of various Hood
River apple shipping concerns will
leave the latter part of the week for
Cincinnati to attend the annual con
vention of the International Apple
Shippers' Association. William Irwin,
recently promoted from assistant sales
managership of the general office to
the managership of the New York City
exports and domestic oflice of the Ap
ple Growers Association, will leave
Saturday for the east. Mrs. Irwin
will accompany him as far as Idaho
points, where she will stop for a visit
with friends and relatives before go
ing on to New York. P. F. Clark will
tttend the Cincinnati meeting.
Others who will go from here for the
apple marketers convention include
It. W. Kelly. II. F. Davidson, and C.
W. McCullagh. W. R. Woolpert left
Id days ago on a tour of various fruit
belts before proceeding to Cincinnati.
William S. Ouckwall, of Indianapolis
