My reasons for- uriTin the voters of
Oreeon to elect Rol eit N. Sianridd
Ul ited Slates Senator are very definite
and specific. Pint anii foremost, it
appears to he accepted as a fact that
Harding will be eledfed president, and
a Republican president would be prac
ticallyjhetplesa in carrying out his par
ty's policies unless he lu;s the support
Of a Kci ublican senate. Mr. Stanneld
is a loyal Republican and will, if elect
ed, back up Harding as president in
his efforts to restore genuine American
government.
Am th t reason whv Mr. Stanneld
wtielroirijrly Republican, Look at the
registration figures. At the present
time there are approximately 250,000
reglsteieJ Republicans and 100,000
registered . Democrats, With such a
preponderance of Republican sentiment
it seems absurd that the state should
be represented in the ssnate by any

On the other hand, if his Democratic
opponent should he reelected the lat

would turn cunt vol of the senate over

Another ground for supporting Stan
field is famished by his altitude on the
League of Nations Issue. Mr. Stan
fiel I fakes the stand that there should
be an agreement among the nations to
pri ii rve the peace of the world. He
believes that such an international as
Bouiation should he based upon inter
national laws and that a general inter
national conference should he called
whenever peace thall be threatened.
He believes that our relations with the
other nations of the world should be
such as will enable the United Statea
to perform its full duty to civilization
and humanity without, however, sur
rendering the rif'ht of the American
people to exercise Its iudjenient in fa-
Mr. Stanfleld's unequivocal stand In
favor of passage by the senate of the
Soldiers' and Sailors' Relief Bill is an
exmple of the direct manner in which
he takes his stand on public questions.
Mr. Stanfield is a native son of Ore
gon and thorouglv understands her
needs. He is anxious to aid in secur
ing federal support for such vitally im
portant Oregon enterpriser as irriga
tion, road construction, livestock, lum
ber and other industries.
Having experienced in his own busi
ness of livestock nd wool growing the
disastrous effect of excessive railroad
freight rates. Mr. Stanfield fully np
pre ites the necessity of encouraging
the development of ocean-borne com
merce. He favors the adoption of an
etic policy looking toward the
improvement of Oregon's rivers and
harbors, and in the Voter's Pamphlet
has shown his realization oi the imper
ative necessity of free tolls.
