The songs and dances of the young sters and their intricate drills were given with the minutest precision and yet they seemed spontaneous because of the absence of self consciousness that marked the deportment of the tots. The children were instructed in their songs and music by Mrs. C. H. Hen ney, of Portland, head of the music department of the city schools. In their dancing and drills the children were lead by Mrs. Edgar Franz, a local young matron skilled in the in terpretation of classic dancing. "- The numbers ofthe program brought rounds of applause ana called for num erous encores. Among the moat en thusiastic of the big audience were Iiarties of motorists here from Port and, who declared that they had never witnessed more elborate exer cises in any of the metropolitans chools. The program of the patriotiq pageant in full was as follows: June song, "Flowers that Bloom in the Spring, ' primary grades; flower and basket drill, first and second grades; pansy son, first grade; folk games, third grade; grand chorus, children led by Uncle Sam and Columbia; reading, "Origin of the Flag," Miss Jessie Lewis; song, "Beautiful Flag," fourth grades; Flag songs, first grades; dance, by children ; "Dixie," by chil dren; "Pickaninnies," fourth grades; song, "Uncle Sam is a Jolly Good Fel lw, fourth grades; Chinese song, sixth grades; Japanese drill, Eighth grades; minuet, seventh and eighth grades; dance of Spanish gypsies, high school girls ; solo and chorus, Miss Dor othy Rand. The program closed with the singing of "Long May Our Glori ous Flag Wave." "The Star Spangled Banner' and "Battle Cry of Free dom." The members of Canby Post, G. A. R., and Canby Corps, W. R. C, were guests of honor of the city schools at the celebration. The program was opened by the reading of Lincoln' Gettsysburg speech by Sanford Smith, Commander of Can by Post. Capt. George R. Local Applicants Expect No Pruning Local Federal farm loan associations. four of which have been organized in the Valley, were recently visited by C. K. Crosno, an appraiser of the Spo kane bank, and the local applicants are expecting some definite report from the bank this week, the total of local applications for Federal farm loans will reach almost $150,000. While local orchardists making ap plications for loans from the federal rural credits bank have not included in their valuation any enhancement that bearing fruit trees might give in a sale of the realty, they have based their figures on the permanently estab lished irrigation system and high state of productivity of the soil. But very little pruning of their valuations is ex pected by local applicants. Foreclosure on Last Tract Soon The last of three tracts formerly owned by the Associated Fruit Grow ers will be sold at sheriff's sale here in the near future, the Scandinavian American bank, of Astoria, holding a mortgage for S4.000on the place, which is comprised of 30 acres. This tract was turned over to the corporation by R. F. Marquis, secretary of the defunct company, against which District At torney A. J. Derby last fall took action for the protection of minority stockholders, owning 1,047 shares. With an authorized capital stock of $70,000, the concern was declared in solvent and E. N. Benson, a West Side orchardist, was named receiver. Two other tracts of 10 acres each, which were turned over to the corpora tion as payment for stock by E. E. Stanton formerly county judge of Hood River county, have already passed through foreclosure proceed ings. Both Judge Stanton and Mr. Marquis have left Hood River, the former now residing at Stromberg, Nebr., and the latter at Bismarck, N. D. Stomach Troubles and Constipation.
