THE CARLSBAD OF AMERICA
Ilown at Ashland the people am cull

it stick. Nature has been prodigal in
giving our cousins of southern Oregon
much of Sfenery and charming en

must of these blessings. The progress
ive, citizens ol Ashland aro concentrat
ing llnir elFurts of publicity in a cam
paign to tell the story of the wonderful

seem to be succeeding, and we wish
them the greatest success.
Why shouldn't this town with its
healing waters become better known in
the next decade than the original Carls
bad? The "See America Kirst" idea
is taking, and our sister city is going
to realize from the fever it will bring
just as wo here in the Hood Kivre val

there will he no need for them ever to
leave for cures of Ashland's lithia

GOING TO PARKDALE
The Pine Grove minstrels who last
Saturday night put on their show at
the Pine Grove grange hall, where 300
valley folk laughed themsleves tired,
will journey to Parkdale on Saturday
night. Their shnw will be put on in
the Parkdale hall.
The mummers have been familiarzing
themselves with some jokes peculiarly
adapted to the Upper Valley, it is said,
and such celebrities as C. I. Johann

Thompson, the Parkdale booster, and
K. J. Mclsaac. the popular Upper Val

well meant shafts of the ridiculous.
FOREST PROD CO.

throughout the winter season.
The output of the mill will be (turned

- An Irreverent Goat.
The Welsh fuslleer were presented
by Queeu Victoria with a goat, which,
after several year of exemplary con
duct, fell Into bad ways. It culminat
ing act of insubordination occurred
when the regiment was quartered at
Wrexham, and one fine summer even
ing after mesa the officers were stroll
ing about smoking and enjoying the
fresh air. The colonel stooped down
to push lu the end of hi trousers strop,
and the goat, which happened to be
ciose by, found the temptation Irresist

his commandlug ottlcer against au ad

his eyes were blacked and his face
was otherwise damaged. By this es
