He will gladly carry messages and rsll upon friends or relatives of his friends here if re quested. This will be his first visit to the home of his boyhood days sines he came to Hood River II years sgo, snd he will visit not only at his mother's heme, but at the home of Mrs. Clark's patents. C For ms n will be grieved to know that on Saturday, April 17.?their little son, J. C. Forman, III, panned away at their home in Cleveland, Ohio. Diphtheria was the diseaxe which left such sorrow in the home which had known this bright little life and words can but feebly express the sympathy we would extend to the bereaved family in their great sorrow. Dr. and Mrs. J. L. Jenkins, of Mer rill, la., fare here for a visit at the homes of I.. C. and A. H. Weinheirner and W. L. Sherman. Dr. and Mrs. Jenkins have attended the expositions st San Francisco and Eos Angeles.Cal., and are returning home by way of Hood River for a visit with these friends. The Alpine class of the M. E. Sun day school will celebrate the close of a six weeks' contest in a fitting manner next Friday evening in the basement of the church. They have invited as their guests Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Duck wall and the Excelsior class. Mrs. E. C. Weinheirner is teacher of the Al pine class and Mrs. Duckwall is teacher of the Excelsior class. Gordon llaskins has the tract he pur chased recently from G. F. I'urdy all planted in garden. J. W. McDonald lost a valuable horse last week. Mrs. M. L. Hawthorne celebrated the eightieth anniversary of her birth Wed nesday. Friends were glad tn congrat ulate her and wish her many happy re turns of the day. A good meeting of the grange was held Saturday afternoon. Five new members were initiated and the follow- n a officers installed: Mrs. L. J. Gates, lecturer: Mrs. H. Henderson, lady as sistant; W. N. Williams, gate keener. No regular gunge meeting will be held until May l'J, when Pomona grange will meet Bt Udell. Committees have been appointed and preparations are being made to entertain Pomona grange at thia time. Mrs. II. II. Richmond, of Portland, Ore., and Miss Bessie Woodring, of Colorado Springs, Colo., are expected here this evening for a visit with their sister, Miss Helen Woodring. Virgil Absten has returned from the Yakima country and was calling on old friends in Frankton last week. The school board has consented to furnish the necessary folding chairs that are needed when pubic gatherings of any kind are held in the school house. A good proposition. We have said lots of hard thincs about our bad roads and the road bosses down this way, but we will say this much, that Warren Miller, the present roan supervisor, nas done better work and more of it than the other road bosses that we have ever had all put togeiner. J. F. Mason ia making some improve ments to nis House, those things all neip to make the highway look better. This is good roads day. Is everybody out? If not get out this afternoon and blister your hands a little. Arch Eastman and Arthur Kerr have the fishermen all skinned to a frazzle. They were down the Columbia Sunday for a little outing, and while trying their luck at fishing with a throw line succeeded in hooking what the boys thought was a whale. After repeated efforts to land it and being pulled into mo iriver several times, they finally landed a 60-inch sturgeon which tipped the scales at 75 pounds.
