February 15, 1315. The U. S. Civil Service Commission ill conduct the examination for Mr. Sinnott. Any young man between the ages of 16 and 20 yeara who is an actual resident of the second congressional district will be allowed to take thia examination. Those desiring to do so should drop a line at once to Hon. N. J. Sinnott, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C, ao that he can list the candi dates and send each one specimen ques tions. The examination will consist of algebra, geometry and grammar, for which three hours are allowed; and af ter an intermission of one hour, geog raphy, United States history and arith metic, for which three hours are al lowed. Candidatea should report to the secretary of the local civil service board at Klamath Falls, Baker and The Dalles promptly at 9.30 o'clock, Febru ary 15, prepared to take the examina tion. The candidate who makes the highest average grade in tbia competitive ex amination will be appointed by Con gressman Sinnott as principal; and those ranking next highest will be ap pointed first, second and third alter nates respectively. The official exam ination of entrance to the academy takes place April 20, 1915. Should the principal candidate after being ap pointed fail to pasa the official examin ation! physical or mental) the alter nates will be considered in the order of their rank. BASEBALL PLAYERS HAVE NARROW ESCAPE The party of baseball stars that passed through Hood River last fall on the way to eastern Oregon and Wash ington, hunting and enjoying a genera) outing, had a narrow escape recently when their motor boat refused to work above Celilo falls. With the engine deadened they drifted to within 20 yards of the cataracts. One of the men worked manfully, and finally the three and a half horse power motor sputtered and began to cough again. A thanks giving prayer was offered up on board. Ihe party was composed of the fol lowing: Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kodgers and son, Mrs. Evan Evana andBuddy Ryan. Both Mr. Rodgera and Mr. Ry an are well known to coast baseball fans. The former will go to Ceveland, however, next year. FAMILY REUNION AFTER 45 YEARS Seeing her for the first time since she was a little girl, George Trumbull, of Brush I'rairie, Wash., was here last week visiting his sister, Mrs. J. S. Head, and family. Mr. Trumbull was born in Knox county, Ky., 1846. The family removed while he was a child to Linn county, Mo., where Mrs. Head was born in 1854. Mr. Trumbull left his home in 1810, coming directly to Portland, where he resided until two years ago when he removed to Brush Prairie. While in Portland he was em ployed with the lnman-Poulsen Lumber Co. Mr. and Mrs. Head came to Hood River last year from Little Rock, Ark.
