To the editor: It Is with consider alilo surprise that 1 note in the Glacier . . .. i- L II or Jan. v, an intimation oi me tecn being put in operation in connection with the discussion of the annual tax LuiJeet. most of all to find it almost, if not quite, the subject of your leading ed tonal. Anv citizen of Hood River county who has a eane idea of the meaning of the recall would never think of apply ina at oresent this threat on the piiunl v court. What are the facta regarding the acitation over the proposed appropria tion of $2000 for the exhibit at San Francisco as given to us through your columns and of your" contemporaries? This Mr. Havlin anil Mr. Iiutler asked the cotintv court to out the $2,000 in the budget. They did bo. They also proceeded to ask somebody else the people of the county if they o. k.d the two gentlemen's desire. A lot of them said No. A lot of them paid no attention, believing the county court were wise enough to do the square thinn. A ot of them said yes, ana also howled monsback, tightwad, et cetera, at not only the "No crowd," but even the county court and added insult to iniurv bv intimating they would start the recall, and all over a paltry difference of $500. because as they claim, the county court is run by a small bunch of knockers. If cvervhodv will think a moment they will see the easiest thing for the court to do would be to follow the Lm- pcrorWilhelm style of exercising its ollii'ial iuiu'iiona, insiuuu ui nlvl"K their constituents a chance at realizing thu Jcirersonian ideal iii local self government. Further, if some of the "Yes crowd' will take the pains to cultivate the acquaintance of the members of the court, they will suddenly realize that there are no other three citizens ot me county further removed from the boss ism of anv clique, social prestige or political influence than they. Further that no court has wished to follow the wishes of the greatest number of their constituents more than they, as evi denced bv their constant effort to in form the people of what they are doing and are intending to do. The principal object of the winter short course it to provide, in the most compact and practical way, the largest amount of information and training in scientific agriculture that four weeks at a completely equipped agricultural college can afford, at a season of the year when the farmer can best snare the time from actual farm work. It is the purpose of the college to take this as one of the means of enriching and improving rural life, by pointing out resources not yet utilized or enjoyed. Instruction it offered in all branches of agriculture including horticulture, agronomy, dairy husbandry, animal husbandry, veterinary science, zoology, bacteriology, entomology and poultry husbandry. The course in home eco nomics, including the branches of do mestic science and domestic art, proving very popular.
