LAND SHOW ARRANGE MENTS BEING MADE It is purposed to make as a special feature of the forthcoming Manufac turers & Land Products show, which will be held in Portland from October 20 to November 14, l'J14, a big display of products and test exhibits from the Oregon Agricultural College. A. 1. Bateham, chairman of the committee on land products, Division President I). M. Dunne, and Manager Louis W. Buckley, held a conference with Prof. Kalph D. Hetzel, of the Oregon Agri cultural College, in Portland July 20. Heretofore, at previous Oregon soil products exhibitions the matter of con tinuous and thorough lectures has not been extensively carried out. The eastern land shows, however, have made a specialty of 30 minute talks, the speakers utilizing lantern elides and moving pictures to illustrate their subjects, thetie lectures being continu ous from 10.30 every day until the close of the land Bhow sessions at night. Thus fully 30 to 40 different land dem onstrator and lecturers have provided daily food for thought to many thou sands of interested people. In fact, this part of the land shows has made them profitable, both financially and in an educational way to the promoters and also to the public. Every subject known, from irngation topics and prac tical demonstrations through to tree spraying, intensive cultivation of the soil, marketing, improvement of stock, etc., hitve been set forth by means of talks by talented men and women who have given up their time to a knowl edge of better results in tilling the soil. Down the swift river's fork'd precipi tous bed For centuries the torrents wear and fret: Age-long, the shadows of the firs have met Above the vital waters, drawn from distant head. White is the snow where once the flames were red : Silence, where earth had thundered awful threat. Those icy citadels are molten yet And the hot heart which for so long seemed dead Lives in this mellow fruit, whose sweetness springs From ice and lava; time such treasure brings. George W. Cronyn.
