(iellfrman, of Tacoma, Wash., is visiting Mrs. C. A. Hrown. 1'. I.. Arthur, S. K. Francisco and Ceo. Young were business visitors in The Dalles this week. J. 1. Davenport and family spent Saturday in Mood Kiver. Mrs. W. (!, Oloyd is spending a few weeks in I'ortland with her mother and sister. Kev. 11. C. Clark, of Hood Kiver, gave a lecture at the Christian ' church on Wednesday evening. Emily Sumlborg, of Salem, formerly of Mosier, is now spending a few days here with old friends. H. M. West was in The Dulles during the week attending to business. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Stark, of Hood Hiver, ("pent the week end in Mosier with relatives. Word was received Thursday from Mrs. K. Nord, of Stevenson, Wash., of the accidental death of her husband. Kric Nord. Mosier will remember Mrs. Nord as Miss llulda (iraudlund. Funeral services were held Friday in Stevenson. Mrs. C. (I. K. Harlan. Interment was made in 1. O. U. F. cemetery beside their infant son. Rel atives coming from i'ortland to attend the service were Mrs. Rebecca Ward, mother of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. IS. The early arrival of spring is causing all Mosier farmers to arise with the lurk, uh the most of tho orchards and fields are in tine condition to beign plowing. The earlier blossoms are out, such as apricots and peaches, and cher ries are opening. TROUT LAKE. Mr. Kingman is building a bridge across the W hite Salmon river for II. Zuherbuhler, to connect his ranch with the river road. H. S. Hamilton has just returned from a business trip to Portland. Joseph Aerni has moved onto the property lately purchase frorn Mr. Sa le ro. C. H. Pearson & Co. are going to eiect a building for storing machinery and vehicles, of which they propose to keep a full line in stock. Mr. Cozad made a flying trip to White Salmon on business a few days ago. Mr. Cozad has commenced the building of a dam across Trout Creek fur the purpose of generating electric ity, we presume for public use. There is an opening for a proposition of this kind in this locality. With all the power there is going to waste there is no reason why the turmeis should not have lectrie lights in their buildings at reasonable cost. J. K. Reynolds has lately imported a hired man from the sunny south. Hunlires are blazing and clearing is going on, promising additional acreage of tillable and in the valley. At the next meeting of Trout Lake giange each member is expected to give a iiioation from their favorite aiunor. Christ Guler, deputy assessor, is a uusy man these nays. UNDERWOOD. II. W. Hamlin was in Hood Kiver last week on'busines. On Monday of last week Mrs. W. G. Detwiller celebrated her birthday anni versary by entertaining a number of ladies of the neighborhood. The visit ors enjoyed a pleasant social after noon, after which a delicious luncheon was served. Those present were Mrs. S. K. V. Weber, Mrs. C. N. Vinton, Mrs. I,. F. Stickney. Mrs. II. W. Ham lin, Mrs. Geo. Hewett, Mrs. J. .A. lUynes, Mr?. Claude Davidson and the Misses Alberta McNaught, Hazel Holmes and Ruth Vinton. Mrs. O. D. Trciber was visiting in Hood River part of last week. G. C. Corlie returned home last Fri day. Miss Hazel Holmes went to Hood River Wednesday of last week for a vhort stay. Mrs. Griener's mother, Mrs. Ellis, is visiting her for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Detwiller are receiving congratulations on the birth! of another little daughter, who-urrived Friday, March 20. Plans and specifications for the'new cannery building are expected soon. I ho board of directors has signed a contract with George H. Tinker to manage the cannery this year and all plans are settled. Mr. Tinker is now at work, rushing all preliminary de tails. Twenty-eight thousand crates have been ordered by the White Salmon Fruit Crowes Union to handle the strawberry crop of this section this season. It will take ! curs to bring the shipment of crates to White Salm on according to a statement made yes terday by Manager Conger of the Union. , The shipment will come in carload lots, one car every other day for a period of 30 days. The new Hood View road, undoubt edly the most important piece of high way construction ever proposed in the valley, is assured, after many weeks of investigation in road construction, ne cessitating the signing of several peti tions.
