'J he citizens at their former meeting considered the proposition of having a piano in the school. It was learned that a surplus was on hand and by unanimous vote the school board was instructed to se cure a piano, me instrument was placed in the building Monday. Robbing read a resolution, which was adopted, calling for the uniting of the Harrett Behoof with other schools of the valley for high scnooi purposes. Mr. Lockman is pruning tne E. F. Lawrence orchard. The February meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association will be held a the school house Friday, tomorrow, evening, at 7.30 o'clock. Roll call will be answered by quotations on the sub ject of "Home and what constitutes a good home. There will be a paper on "Music in the Home," by Mrs. Dutro, and one on "Good Reading in the Home," by Miss Northcy. There may be speakers along lines not touched upon lif tho program as here outlined, but the committee cannot at this time state definitely more than this, fexcept that there will be music. An interest ing evening is expected. L. A. K. Clark expects to spend the remainder of this week and a part of next week pruning the orchard of Dr. John W. Sifton, of I'ortland. This orchard is located one half mile south west of Hood River. The meetings at the Methodist church continue, services for the even ings following being announced from night to night. Rev. Ferry's sermons are always strong, helpful and inspire his hearers to right living. Hisfstay at this point is limited, as there are many demands upon his services and he may devote but a few days to the needs of each'porion of the field. Good music is provided for these meetings, the committee in charge of this im portant part of the work Dlannine special numbers for each service. You are cordially invited to attend. M. I). Odell has recieved a letter from Mr. Park, who disappeared mys teriously one morning last fall. Ac cording to his letter, his leaving Odell is a blank in his memory, but he re members that he left personal nronertv somewhere and wrote regarding that. He was at Ashland. Ore., when he wrote and has been under the care of a Physician. He left his personal effects here in the care of O. L. Walters. 1 he February social and business meeting of the Ferguson Bible class will be held next Wednesday evening at the home of Miss Eva Boyed. This will be in the form of a Valentine party and also a reception to tho mem bers of the class who have been mar ried within the last few months. These are Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Sheppard, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sexton. Mr. and Mrs. Barclay Henderson and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Davenport. Committees are in narge ot the entertainment, refresh ments, etc., and a very pleasant even- ng is anticipated. A general, invita- ton is extended to every member of BELMONT. Mr. and Mrs. John Nealiegh, at the planer, are rejoicing over the birth of a son. Mr. Farrell intends butchering this week. Leander Anderson is supplying some of the residents at the planer with milk. Gilbert Nelson, wife and children have returned from eastern Oregon, where they have been visiting for the past two months. Work has started at the Stanley- Smith yards. The hum of the planer is heard daily the past few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Wlison, of I'ortland, ill make their home at Mrs. M. P. Isetiberg'a thia summer. Mr. Wilson will take the management'of the box factory at the planer. The Misses Alma and Mattie Jontfs. who have been quite ill with a severe attack of measles, we are glad to know are much better. Mr. and Mrs. Will Chubb and daugh ters, Pearl and Irene, left for their home this week, after a rather lengthy visit owing to the children.having had the measles. Mrs. J. R. Forden had a lucky es cape from what might have been a bad accident, when her little daughter was thrown between the wheels of the buggy, the wheels passing over the little one. Fortunately although badly frightened no bones were broken. Geo. Galloway, Sr., we are sorry to hear, is not enjoying good health at present. The Ladies' club met at the home of Mrs. L. W. Bishop Friday and finished its business in time 'for the ladies to attend the parent-teacher meeting held at Barrett school. Several good papers were read at the meeting. J. W. Davis was quite sick for a time last week. At this writing he is much better. Mrs f! For the present Mr. Glass and family will live on the ranch belonging to Mrs. Gilbert. Marshal Attacked By Belligerent Dog City Marshal Carson was Tattacked by a belligerent stray dog last Thurs day and severely bitten on the left wrist. The dog had no owner and was making trouble for residents of the city. The marshal investigated his case and was preparing to take the canine down to the.Columbia bank to the execution ground.
