WILSOS, Agent NEW LIQUOR LAW AF FECTS VALLEY THIRSTY "How dry I am How dry I am Nobody cares or gives a " May become the chorus of the out valley citizens who are prone to get thirsty during the warm months of the year and long for the frothy, barley beverage; for on account of the new intrastate liquor shipment law, it is illegal for a consignee to receive the shipment except in person from the agent or the railroad systems, lhe Mount Hood Railroad Company main tains no agents except at flood River, and accordingly the shipments go no further than the local office. Shipment of liquor were stopped over the Apple Valley route last week and since then Agent Guy Sailing has been the recipient of various kicks ami com plaints. It is declared that the thirsty patrons all along the route have been calling and wanting to know what has become of their refreshments. Mr. Sailing informs them of the new law and explains that no more shipments of liquor, malt vinous or spirituous can be made over the line. Then things are doing. The telebphone wires usually become warm with the surcharged ex postulations. Consternation prevailed over the week end at the camp of Greeks doing work for the contractor buildng an extension of the Mount Hood line southwest of Dee. The Greeks wanted two barrels of "Dago Red brought out from the city. But this liquor was under the ban as well, and a wagon had to be secured that the laborers might be appeased. Chas. T. Early, manager of the Ore gon Lumber Company and superintend ent of the railroad company, has con ferred with A. M. Crawford, the state's attorney general, who has given out the opinion that the road is within its rights in not accepting the liquor shipments, since it has no agents. In terstate shipments will necessarily be delivered. VALLEY IIAS NEW SUMMER HOTEL Because of the beauty of it architec ture and the beauty of the community surrounding, the newest of Hood Riv er's summer hotels and the most unique, bids fair to become one of the most popular places for a quiet outing among the scenic districts of the north west. No place in the Hood River valley, noted for its many inviting nooks, can form a more attractive environment for such a resort. The Allen home is nestled among the oaks on the ridge that rises at the west side of the valley. On ac count of the altitude one is able to look down on a great portion of the valley's orchards, lhe Hood river ia but a short distance away to the east, and the fisherman has only a short walk before him until he reaches the side of the stream. A number of guests from Portland have already arrived to spend a short time at Enderly. After mu sic and entertainment by Misses Wheal don, Peterson and Davit's, Miss Harbi son was lead under the umbrella. Our Mr. C. C. Cate will be at the Hotel Oregon, Hood River, Mon doy, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 30, and July 1 and 2, and will be pleased to meet and talk with the strawberry growers of the valley who are interested in increasing their yields. Our Mr. Cate is demonstrating the benefits to be derived in using our Beaver Brand animal fertilizer in the cultivation of strawberries. This brand of fertilizer ha3 already been tested in the Hood River valley and has proven that it produces berries that are larger and bet ter colored and more uniform in shape as well as in much larger yields than in patches unfertilized. We take pleasure in referring to Mr. Edwin B. Winter of Hood River Valley, who will verify these statements and be glad to tell you of his success in using Beaver Brand animal fertilizer. i It will be to your interest to see Mr. Cate.
