opinion of c-j Ernst, of Omaha, they
would -knock the t pots off" that far
famed fruit. Savs Mr. Ernst in a let
ter to Secretary Mellor of the state
b0"d,ricutfure:
,'riad the pleasure the latter part
or last June 0f Signing the Hood River
orchards in Oregon, and my wife and I
were fuy .'tt if all of our
Nebraska farmers who try to raise
apples could only once visit those Hood
River orchards and see for themselves
how they could iroprwe their crops by
following Kivtr methods, could
then 'knock the fpcts off" Hood Kiver
apples because ours would have the
quality in addition to all the other good
points, v.hirh uutv seems to be
largely, and in some cases, almost en
tirely, absent in most of those western
apples. I gaw one ten-acre orchard
there for k;i, ho nresent owner
Lpaid $16,500 a vear or two ago. If 1
were twenty years younger, I believe I
would start a commercial apple orchard
of ten to forty acres, folluwing Hood
Kiver practices and I am sure that it
would be clearly profitable after ten
years from plantii., but I guess I am
too old to start one now."

Backache pains often come from
weak kidneys,

says:
Mrs. Annie Samuel, 1210 Seventh
St., Hood River, Ore., sayB: A year
ago I began to suffer from kidney com
plaint and gravel. My back ached a
great deal and the kidney secretions
were unnatural. Hearing of a similar

Just Little Stories
N. J. Dilday, an Indianapolis insur
ance man, father of Upie Dilday, who
was a popular resident of the valley
year before last, used to run a country
paper down south. He gavea tramp
printer a job once on condition that
the printer take his. pay in orders for
meals at a nearby oywter parlor whose
owner advertised with Diluay, says
the baturuav Evening Post.
For a solid week the printer stuck
to it, making his meals otf oysters
raw, tried, stewed and broiled but
only oysters. On Saturday night he
came from the composing room to the
business o nee and hailed Dilday.
"Boss," ho gJlij, 'i like this job and
l ve always oeen mighty fond of oys

I never would get enough oysters to

While all of the fire boys exerted
every effort toward the success of the
dance, the special dance committee was
