Mr. Waite gays that some interesting results have been obtiiined from the work thi t W. S. Ballard, of hw office, is doing in cornection with the apple powder mildew in the Wataonville.Cal.. district. He sy. however, that it is a very hard pr jbelrn to solve and tech nical 10 discuss. A careful study ol fruit rots will be taken up this fall u"'1 Mr- Waite's direction. The subject will be treated from a pathological standpoint, in co operation with the work that is in progress under Dr. Stubenraucb. Work on fruit 'disease! undtr Mr. Waite here tofore lias been carried on largely when the fruit was picked. In the new studv Mr. Waite a investigations will have to do with fruit in transpor tation, in packages, in storage and on the market. Eight new members were taken in and three ap plications received. The club has just presented the library with a set of his tories, fire volumes, by Woodrow Wil son. Miss McLaren, the president, with Mrs. Psge, Mrs. Geo. Stranahan and Mrs. Snow, alternated by Mesdames Hinrichs, Shoemaker and Laraway, were appointed delegates to the Feder ation of Woman's Clubs to be held in Portland Nov. 13, 14 and 15. Mrs. Sletten favored the audience with a solo, "I Hear You Calling Me," by Marschall. She was accompanied by Mrs. Slocom. Mrs. Sarah A. Evans' address on markets, bordering oh good health, pure food, unclean food and sanitary conditions was very interesting and many good points were learned from tne speaker. A social cup of tea was indulged in and a few minutes' tete tete with Mrs Evans closed the meet-itif?- On October 23, in the Commercial club rooms the Woman's club will hold their next meeting. Mrs. J. J. Gib bons will have the program in charge. Miss Milan, of Corvallis Oregon Agri cultural College, will speak on social economics. Musical numbers by Mrs. Chas. Henney and Hans Hoerlein. Says Hood River Will Exhibit 2000 Boxes The Rosehurg Commercial club bul letin publishes the following item: "Hood River, Ore., Sept. .-Arrangements are now being made for a large collection of fruit for the North west Land and Produce exposition that is to be held in Portland next month. It is expected that Hood River wi 1 have at least 2000 boxes of the val ley's finest apples at the show. Secretary Scott, of the local club, says he does not know where they got their information, hut u panics valley are entering exhibitions, he would like to get in touch with them, as the directors at their last meeting authorised him to apply for 12x16 feet of space for an entry in the artistic apple display class.
