This resolution, passed by the House of Representatives, is rmw before the Committee on Educatioi . Yours very truly, Edwin C. Ketd, General Secretary, Esperanto Association of North America. As another reason for the use of the lancuace the following: n ay show its adaptability to commerrml uses. Foi about a year Air. l'arrisl, (whose let ters have seve'al times l i en published in Amerika Esperantisto) ha been in Europe as the representative of the Eos Angeles Chamber i f Commerce, with the purpose of bringing befoie the better cliisj of people the wonder ful opportunities of Southern Califor nia, lie uses no otlier language than Esperanto, knows no other except En glish, and has lectured in Esperanto before large audiences in cities in every country, from fcngiaud to Rus sia, that it has been a good proposi tion for the Eos Angeles Chamuer of Commerce we can be certain, because there has just been tra; slated in The Esperanto Olliee, upon order from Eos Angeles, the text of an Ml-page book describing the country Hinund that city and the commercial possibilities of Los Angeles. This is to be published for use in answering the m ny impiiriis being daily received fiocn all over Eu rope; and 1 have been given to under stand that the first edition will be 10,000. This, after a year of experi ment, is definite proof that some people in America have found Esperanto of "practical use." We are all aware that of all business men in this country, surely those in control of the ra Iroads are most likely to be sure ol their profits, and this is, if possible, still more true of the rail road me"li of Europe, where not even a time-table is furnished lie?. Vet I have before me one of the most beauti ful guide buoks 1 have ever seen in any language, and it is entirely in Es peranto, published by the Talis and Orleans Railroad, desciihing the beauties of that part of France which the railroad covers. It is printed upon heavy paper and in several colors and is an expensive piece of printing, all to the end that Espersintists may be in duced to vis't this region ! Much inlei est is being taken in the study of the language in nil parts ol the world, and groups and classes for better study formed in all countries. There seems to he a peculiar fascina tion in the study, and an increase in the interest in spreading the knowl edge, which has been fitly named Es perantism. I will be very glad to give any inquirer all the information possi hie, and have a few of the text books on hand if any one cares to take up the study. The text books are given as a premium for a year's subscription to the American magazine, Amerika Es peranlisto, which of itself is certainly worth the subsci iption price of one dol lar a year, for a 'Vl page monthly, ntiout half of which is printed in En glish, Hnd extremely interesting read ing. Yours very truly, 11. H. Eangille. Why cough? Stop it! Stop coughing! Coughing rasps and tears. Stop it! Coughing prepares the throat and lungs for more trouble. Stop it ! APPLE INTEREST CON STANTLY INCREASES It is an evident fact that the pro-1 ductiun of Eastern apples of good qual ity is far below what it might be, says American Cultivator. That apples of tine quality may be grown profitably in large quantities is authoritatively . stated by Eastern horticulturists and this fact has been ably demonstrated ' by many individuals. What can he done in New England with its cold win ters and short summers can most as- I suredly be done in any State west of the Mississippi River. I The rank and tile of the farmers of the country have not yet realized the fact that the apple crop is just as much desreving their attention as corn or wheat or potatoes. Whenever ti:ey ; are ready to work for it systematically they will find much greater piotit in this line than in any they are now fol lowing. Fruit will not become plenti- ful enough for many years to materi-; ally lower the market for first elass goods. Consumers are increasing, and there would still he a wide margin of profit were prices much lower thBii at present. New England is striving through her boards of agriculture and her horticul tural societies to encourage fruit grow ing. She has demonstration orchards here and there where at stated times meetings are held to show the opera tions of power spraying, pruning, tree surgery, picking, packing and storing and marketing. One day's lessons demonstrate in this way are of more practical value than weeks of study without concrete illustration. The fruit exhibitions are also of much ben efit. At the last New Hampshire meeting Uw exhibits numbered 1,500, and throughout the three days' meet ing the ablest talent obtainable ad dressed the assembled people on the numerous subjects pertaining to apple trowing. Who could love and marry a bald-headed woman? What ehiinns could one array to oir.set such a dis figurement? A woman's goal is usually love ami marriage. Her rtcvmnn glory is her hair. The loss of her hair mars her beauty, happiness, and succeeds. Yet, nnht here m Hood Kiver .there are thousands of women who are neglect ing or injuring their hair to such an ex tent that it is only a mutter of time when it will be utterly ruined. Many women destroy the beauty ot their hair through thoughtlessness or ignorance of certain facts. They use curling irons over-heated, or to excess, which destroys the natural oil or the hair, causing it to split, bieak, and come out. J hey do not snampoo tneir hair often enough, or too often. They use soaps or preparations which con tain ingredients positively harmful to the scalp and hair. As a result of such treatment, riand-1 ruff is created, the hair loosens, loses color, falls out, ami baldness com mences, unless proper and prompt pre cautions are taken in time. 1 hen again, microbes and curtain diseases bring about unhealthy scalp and hair conditions. Almost anv woman may rid herself of dandrulf and diseustd scalp and hair if she will but use the right remedy. We have that remedy, nr.d we will pos itively guarantee that it will either cure danarutt and uiiHiness or 11 win not cost the user anything.
