11 of the state, constitution permitting
the state to issue road bonds; and

the J. N. Teal, which has In en laid up
for a thorough overhauling at the
I'ortland wharves, will, it announced
by Shirley Page, local agent, resume
its run on the Mid-Columbia the latter
part of this month. The staoner Ta
homo, which has been plying between
I he Dalles and Portland in place of
the Teal, will resume its own run from
I he Dalles to Cascade Locks, as soon
as the Teal returiiB.

Tragedy Due to Old Injury.
According to statements . received
from physicians at Lone Rock, where
the young man ended his life with a
pistol, shooting himself through the
head, the tragic death of Matthew
Douglas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. S.
E. Douglas, of this city, w; s caused
from the old wound received in the
accident last March, when a large tree
on the Belmont road was blown over
on his rig as he was driving from
ranch work in the country to the city.
It seeniH that a portion of the skull
was pressing on the brain. The young
man had gone to Lone Rock, where he
had invested money received from the
damage case against the county in a
small confectionery Htore. "Keeause
of former threats and an increasingly
morose temperament, caused from the
wound, we were not "surpiised to hear
of his death," said his father. The
remains were buried at Idlewild ceme
tery Wednesday afternoon of last
week. Mrs. Douglas returned to Lone
Rock Friday morning.
