turned from a visit with Mr. Correy's
people at White Salmon last Monday.
We learn while thtre Karle purchased
some property.
Mr. and Mrs. Hawkes and Carl
Johnson returned from their trip to
the Centennial on last Friday. The
Misses Gertrude Johnson and Lulu
Hunt arrived home Sunday afternoon.
All report an enjoyable time,
Mrs. Fanny Koberton is reported no
better.
Mrs. August Paasch is recovering
from the inllammatory rheumatism.
King Benton and family visited at
Mr. jucker a on the West Side Sunday.
Mrs. Geo. Stanton received a severe
cut on her hand with a piece of glass
last Wednesday morning. Dr. Dumble
dressed the wound and it is doing
nicely.

G. A. McCurdy and family returned
Friday from a ten days' camping trip
in the Upper Valley.
Miss Bess Albright departed last
week for Walla Walla to resume hei
studies in Business College.
Mr. and Mm. Harry M. Francis
entertained several people of the
neighborhood Saturday evening at
supper in honor of Mrs. Francis' par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Armstrong.

Francis H. Irwin and sisters. Misses
Gertrude and Mary, returned home
Thursday from a ten days' outing
spent on Lake Fork, near Lost Lake.
In audition, the nartv was comrxmeii
of three young people from Portland,
who joined the camping outfit at Dee,
II. M. Cummins and family returned
last week trom a visit in Portland and
Underwood.
The dedication services in the new
church Sunday morning werel well
attended, the church being filled to the
extent of its capacity. Rev. H. E.
Greening, ot Spokane, delivered a
forceful sermon on the church of to
morrow. Over $9(10 was subscribed at
the service for the payment of the
debt contracted in the building of the
edifice.
CENTRAL VALE
Several friends of Ruth and Mvrtle
Nelson enjoyed a pleasant afternoon
with them at the home of W. A. Dur
ham the 15th of this month. Croquet
and a few other games were ulaved
nd cuke and lemonade were served.
The Misses Nelson departed for their
home at Cambridge. Idaho, the next
day, accompanied as far as the Dalles
by Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Durham, who
returned the following Monday.
Those who were on the sick list dur
ing the last two weeks were Mrs. T.
A. Boles, Mrs. J. O Cameron, Marian
and Cecil Cameron, and W. A. Turner.
All are enjoying their usual health
except Mr. Turner. It is hoped that
he will soon recover.
School will begin next week with a
large number of pupils, and two
teachers. Miss Mary Sheppard will
attend here this year. She will be
with quite a number of her school
mates of l'JOH-9.
Emit Lester, from Pine Grove, vis-
ted friends in the valley last Sunday.
Other visitors were Mr. and Mrs. P. I.
Lenz and family, from Mt. Hood, and
Mr. and Mrs. M. Cameron, from Pine

to 27 lust Sunday. What's the matter?
Surely we don't intend to let the work
that the Hood River helpers have
given us be in vain. Everybody at
tend next Sunday, as we want to see
that 'record book look better as soon

The pie social given by the Loval
Bereans Saturday night was a great
success financially. Miss Roxie Boles'
pie brought a dollar; the lowest one
was twenty five cents. Ice cream was
sold.
Mrs. and Mr. T. A. Boles and Mr.
and Mrs. J. 0. Cameron departed
Tuesday morning for an outing at Lost
Lake, intending to return Saturday.
The other memoers of each family
intend to take a trip to Mt. Hood in
the near future.
Mr. nnd Mrs. Vanausten and family
spent last Sunday at the Punch Bowl.
Sumner Cameron taught the Loyal
Berean class last Sunday as the reg
ular teacher, Miss Elizabeth Ware,
was absent.

Freight Wreck Holds Mail.
Mail from the East arrived in this
city more than 12 hours late Friday
on account of the wreck of a freight
train on the O. -W. R. & N. line one
mile cast of Blalock station Friday
morning. Twelve cars loaded with
structural steel, cannedjgoods, bridge
iron, merchandise and plaster were
ditched. No 1'ataliticK were reported.
