Phone 64 Editor Glacier: In Hood River Val ley and Town tree are nuineroua and. of course, cheap. The streets of the city are at present beautiful in many places with oak trees, several hundred years old some of them. These trees, appear to some entirely out of place in the streets of a city, hut if one were to travel back East from where I re cently came and see the efforts being made to save every tree that can be saved, it might perhaps call a halt on the destruction of many trees, that will be sadly wanted anil very much needed in Hood River in leas than ten years. Witness f e East Side nd West Side roads, good roads, as beautiful roads as one could wish, but then they are in the burnin? sun, every tree along the roadside that could possibly be cut down has been cut. Ten years from now, 1 Mm sure Hod Kiver will be nlantiritf roadside trees just as com munity back East are now doing, ('ouservition diKSn'tVe m Worth while out here where there are ho many trees but neither was it thought of in the Central Stales whin everything was thick) v forested. Hood Kiver is mstiv desenncu as a beautiful valley, but apple trees alone Will not keep it beautiful. Neither will fruit (ainls be worth as much money wht-'n there are no beauty spots left to attract people with the money to buv orchards. Imagine Hood River gorge without a tree on us orinKs, or Neal Creek. Imagine noou Kiver Valley without a fine or Kir or Oak. Mark it, for this is true, there are too few ''uitelv" building Dlaces right now in the Valley, Jn ten years Building Sites will command greater prices in Hood Kiver tl"" Orchard Land, ven now the 10 acres with a ltuiUJing Site commands the better price. So et us think twice before we pui a tree, and let us save a few trees along the road and along the fence ines. We all need the beautiful trees alone with the full bearing orchards.
