Nichol. who has just re turned from a visit to Seattle, where he went during the I'otitach Festival to visit hia cousin. Commodore Mat. Orchard, of the U S. Ship West Vir ginia, states that there is a possibility of the citizens of this Valley seeing some of the boats of the Paciiii Torpedo fleet come up the Columbia tu this city. Dr. Nichol met Lieutenant Commander Lewis Clark Richardson, commander of the torpedo fleet, who, he states, sees nothing against the feasibility of the boats making the trip. Commodore Orchard will soon make a visit to the Hoed Kiver Valley. The Commercial Club has sent the commander of the fleet an invitation to make the wonderful apple section a visit. Dr. Nichol was accompanied on his trip by his two sons and his brother, C. G. Nichol, of Mosier. Baptist Church Changes Program. A few weeks ago a cummittee from the federated church at Mosier made a personal appeal to n presentatives of the Baptist church of this pine for part of Kev. J. K. Hargreaves' time. Last Sunday morning the question came up for final consideration and after a prolonged discussion in which different questions were introduced and when interest ran nign it was decided to comply favorably with the Moiser request. 1 his decision was reached more from the basis of the economic use of the minister's time than the economy in running expense. Doubt less the salary lor a minister could be settled by the local congregation but the opportunity being atfurded and Mosier a desire, under its present pe culiar circumstances being pronounced. 11 appeared vo uie majority mai mis wav the minister's time could be used to better advantage. f rom this time on Mr. Hargreaves will have supervision of the Mosier work and preach there on Sunday mornings. In Hood Kiver more em bhasis will now be placed upon the Sunday school work and a longer ses sion will be afforded. It is planned for the Sunday school session of each Sun day to close with an exercise led by different individuals in which import ant religious utterances from different leaders of the present' day will be brought before the people. The reg ular preaching service will be held ach Sunday evening as usual and nn effort will be made to coutimie to give to it all possible interest and effective ness. HEIGHTS NEWS The Ladies of the Relief Corps hud a social at Mrs. rurains. last week that was very pleasant and profitable. The next Keiief Corps social will meet August 9 with Mrs. Homewood, 1015 Columbia street. Let all mem bers attend who possibly can, as this fund is to nay for our silver ware. Anvone is free to come who wishes. We are always glad to meet with friends whether of the order or not. The next regular meting of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union will meet on August lJ with Mrs. H. M. Wood, unless further notified. There was no meetingjon the last date on account of the funeral of William Evinger. Miss Steiner, a former resident here, has been up for a short stay. She still has her home on twelfth street. Siha has charge of a kinder garten school in Portland. Fay Imbler, one of the firm that bought out Mr. Christie, is located in the cottage of Mrs. C. L. Stanrahan on Taylor street. Charles W. Gill, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. 11. Gill, is back in Hood Kiver for an indefinite time. Arlo Kradley is seen on our streets very often flying around in the new red auto, delivering bread for the firm of Kradley & Son. Mrs. Willis Bradley returned a short time ago from Canada where she hud made an extended visit with relatives and friends. She was accompanied hon-e by her sister. Mrs. A. C. Staten has had her sister, brother-in-law and two children visit ing her for the past two weeks. They are from the Yakima country and re port a great deal of typhoid fever there. Bayard Simonton aiid wife, the Misses llolman. Miss Anna Stone and Ed. Barton visited Robt. Stone, Miss Stone's father, at Green Point Sunday. E. T. Boland and a party of friends spent last week in the Irout Lake region of Klickitat county, Wash., fishing. Noted Vocalist Will Sing. Mr. McKinney will positively appear at .the noon day concert ot Lewis Clark's trreat western show "The Cattle King" and sing in a highly cultivated, rich in melody voice so .very powerful as to be heard above the en tire instrumentation of this gigantic musical organization. To miss this one gratuitous number 'is parallel to refusimr monev as a gift, lake the word of a manlwhol has spent his en tire life in travel and who has never slept twice in the same bed since his seventeenth birthday. He says: "I have never heard one half his equal. Lewis & Clark's great western show, The Cattle King, is in keening with the high order of all of Lewis & Clark's productions. In this small space it is impossible to give a correct outline of all the scenery. The scenic work is from the studio of Messrs. La- Favette Gould and Wagner, 714-710 Hroadwav. New York. Messrs, !L G. and W, design all of the scenery for the The Academy of Music and the Grand Opera House in New Yorkjand the Chestnut Street Opera House, and the Empire Theatre in Philadelphia. This of itself, is sufficient evidence to satisfy the most exacting that Lewis & Clark will offer only the best that money can buy for their patrons pleasure.
