The Hood River Laundry Co. is now
located in its new concrete building,
eonrtrueted ly Uradley Brothers, at
the. corner of Mate and Inirtecntn
streets, the dimensions of which are
40 hv 100 feet. Since their removal tne
company has installed a number of the
most modern launury macnines. me
new Asher Flat Work ironer. used for
large pieces of linen, presses them at
the rate of 12 to 50 feet per minute.
The machine is so made that articles
are Dressed acainst the rollers, heated
with dry steam, by a canvas mat
moves with them, and thus friction,
which causes Kreat wear, is avoided.
The dryers, recently installed in the
plant, are heated by live steam ana
within 15 minutes have the clothing
placed in them free from moisture,
l'he smaller ironinir machines are
heated by gas (lame, the tfas for which
is manufactured at the plant.
In addition to the local work the
concern has a large number of cus
tomers in Mosier, Wasco and Cehlo.

Marble and Stone.
It may not liu known, but neverthe
less it is a fact, that Oregon has as
line building stone and as valuable
marble as there is to tie found in any
state in the Union. Even many pioneer
Oretfonians appear to be in ignorance
of this fact. Some of these products
of the quarry are well known in Cali
fornia. Marion County has one of the largest
magnesia deposits in the world. Wasco
Count has, near the Cascades, enough
kaolin to supply the Western States
with the finest quality of chinaware,
and right near this kaolin is a quarry
of line basaltic stone Fof almost un
limited extent. Josephine County has
a veritable mountain of black marble
of the finest quality. Near Koseburg
are two large marble quarries, one of
which carries all colors, from pure
white to a brilliantly mottled marble.
Near this quarry is another of dark
brown marble, the color being main
tained uniformly throughout the ledge.
Douglas County also has practically a
mountain of almost pure cement, as
saying 90 per cent, English and Helgian
high-grade cement stone tieing about a
tier cent. Our sandstone in Jackson
Josephine, Coos, Washington and
Lincoln Counties are rated as of the
best in the country.
Near the town of Granite, 'in'Granite
County, there is a quarry of sandstone
that is a curiosity. 'J he rock breaks
loose in symmetrical chunks that re
quire but little dressing to lit them for
a place in a loumlalin or mniuing
Considerable of this rock is used in the
foundation of mills and other heavy
mining machinery.
Flagstone is to he found in large
ouantities throughout Southern Ore
gon, tiranite is also iunu in many
locations in the state.

Extensive Street Improvements Provided

North Yakima, Washington. April
11 (Special) By unanimous vote the
council Ia8t night awarded the contract
to the Warren Construction Company
of Portland, Oregon, for the laying of
hitulithin iiuvernent and the con
struction of concrete sidewalks, curbs ,
and gutters in the West Yakima lm-j
provement District and the 1'leasant
Avenue Improvement District. Tie
Warren Construction Company was the
lowest bidder on both jobs and the
total cost will be close to $15,000.
The adoption of bitulithic pavement
in North Yakima was the result of
careful investigation by the Council in
various cities of the Northwest where
bitulithic has been laid from one to
eight years.
Last year North Yakima bad some
brick and asphalt pavements, neither
of which ceme up .o expectations.
Active work on the new improve
ments will begin a once.

the county responded in great numbers
