Among' the many points of superiority of our Pumps we mention the following:
1
I
m
.
i
si
i
1. The all-steel compact platform instead of the clumsy and heavy wood
structure.
2. Compactness of the engine and pump. The pump is connected to
the engine with a machine cut gear instead of the old-fashioned and long ago
discarded belt.
3. The tanks are made of the best grade of red wood with an iron well for
underneath suction, preventing air-lock, increasing the efficiency of the pump
fully 30 per cent. It is so constructed that it cannot fall down when dried out.
4. A direct driven, improved rotary agitator.
7
5. Ball relief valve keeping pressure safe and uniform.
6. Low-down construction, making it easy to handle in any orchard.
Many other important and exclusive features of our pump that cannot be ap
preciated until you see our outfit, which will be on display at the corner of 3rd
and State streets in the warehouse of the Hood River Soray Manufacturing Com-
Ipany. We are here to stay and every machine sold will have our absolute guar
antee to do what is claimed for it.
Every Outfit Fully Guaranteed. Do not buy until you see this Pumpy

A COMPARISON FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION
Analysis of four commercta! brands of lime-sulphur spray hy the Oregon Agricultural College, Corvallis,
Ore.,
season 1910-11:
Sample No. I. Total Lime 1
Sample No. 2. Total Lime 11.94
Sample No. 3, Total I.ime 12.00
Sample No. 4, Total I.ime il.il
Sample No. 5, Niagara, Total Lime 1Q.05
Total Sulphur 26.63
Total Sulphur 30.03
Total Sulphur 29.21
Total Sulphur 23.98
Total Sulphur 31.44
A comparison of the above analysis plainly shows that NIAGARA brand carries much more lime and sulphur In
solution than any of the rest, and this is decidedly the case when comparing the Beaume tests of the several samples.
Niagara at 31 is far superior to all the others, several of which run as high ai 32 and 33 Beaume test.
Bear in mind that we do not use either salt or caustic soda to raise our Beaume test.

NORTHWEST APPLES
American apples are much appreciat
ed in Germany and are brought by all
classes of people. The most formid
able competitor of the American fruit
in the German market is the apple that
comes from the Austrian Tyrol, one
which enjoys a well deserved and long
standing reputation for quality and
flavor. There is no doubt, however,
that the sale of American apples in
this country could be greatly extended
if shippers in the United States would
be more diligent in the selection and
packing of fruit intended for this
market.
In the opinion of German fruit deal
ers more favorable prices could be
obtained for the American fruit if it
were more carefully graded, better
selected and packed in cases like the
apples imported from the Tyrol. When
packed in this manner the fruit would
stand the journey much better, would
decay less rapidly and could be more
readily inspected.
The following is a translation of a
letter received from a fruit broker of
the Central Market, Berlin, which was
written in answer to a list of interro
gatories sent from Consul Thackara:
"During the past season American
apples in barrels have arrivea in Berlin
badly damaged, owing to the careless
manner in which the fruit is packed.
American shippers do not us, the same
care in sorting the apples as in former
years. In most cases the barrels
contain apples of three or four differ
ent sizes and varying greatly in up
pearance. The top layers are good,
while the middle and bottom rows are
very different both in size and quality.
"Apples are imported into Germany
packed both in boxes and in barrels,
but for the past two years the boxes
have been preferred, as the fruit thus
packed was received in better condition
and the apples were liner. During the
seasons of lilM'.t-lll and l'J10-ll, apples
packed in lioxes were imported from
the State of Oregon and Washington.
The fruit was excellent and well
graded. Sorting the apples must
naturally he dune by the packer, as
the German importer should not be
compelled in pay dunes and lreiglu on
unsorted apples, and besides inferior
fruit should remain in the United
Slates High grade apples packed in
boxes should lie wrapped in paper.
"Up to the present time California
apples have been received here only in
boxes. While they excel in quality the
boxed apples from eastern states, the
packing and quality of the Oregon and
Washington fruit were superior."
No ollicial statistics are published
wihcii would indicate me acreage or
yield of apples in Germany. .While
the hint is widely grown, the general
climatic conditions, except in a few
favored sections of southern Germany,
Havana, linden, Wurtteniherg and
Saxony that are contiguous to the great
I vrolese apple region, are not lavor
alile fur the production of high grade
I nut. I here are also wet seasons
deficient in sunshine, and at certain
tunes of the year hail and storms
cause great damage to orchards. For
these reasons Germany is a large im
porter of apples, the market varying
with the general industrial conditions
and the extent of the home crop. New

The White Salmon people are in high
hopes of having an electric car line in
their valley soon. The Enterprise says
that an electric railway to come
down the White Salmon river from a
point above llusum seems to be a fact.
Ten acres along the river have been
purchased of Mr. Cameron and negotia
tions are on for other rights of way.
The intention is to build a long flume,
passing by the narrows and dropping
the water in the vicntiy of the Kishop
place, where the power house will be
located.
Development Near Mosicr.
The Hood River Orchard Land Com
pany is expending a large sum in
development this spring. They have
made a great outlay in teams and im
plements and have a large pay roll.
Sixty men were sent from here to the
scene of their active devlopment last
week. The company, of which Devlin
& Firebaugh, of Portland, are the sell
ing agents owns 3500 acres in the Hood
River and Mosier districts and is plac
ing on the market a tract of 2100 acres
of apple land five miles southeast of
Mosier. This tract will be known aa
the Mosier View Orchard and will be
planted and developed by the company,
which will turn it over to purchasers
at the end of five years, when the
orchards will be self-sustaining.
The varieties to be planted are Yel
low Newtowns, Spitzenbergs and Ort
leys, with some Arkansas Clacks as
pollenizers. Three-year-old roots w;th
one-year-old buds are to be planted.
The company is starting nurseries of
its own in the Mosier View Orchards
and will have 50,000 trees ready to
plant yearly.
A piece of 30 acres of this tract has
been platted for a townsite. A store
has been opened there, and a hotel and
a number of residences are soon to be
constructed. Roads are being built
and general improvements are .'under
way, a force of 50 men being employed
on the various operations. The com
pany has a monthly payroll of $11000,
