Coe went to Washougal last week for a visit with relatives and also on business. P.T.Shelley, of " Sandy, has been here for a short visit with his parents, Kev. and Mrs. Troy Shelley and with other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Taylor, of Port land, returned to their home Tuesday of last week, after having spent several days visiting at the home of their niece, Mrs. W. P. Kemp. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor stopped ower here on their homeward way from a visit with Mrs. Taylor's sister, Mrs. Hattie Crockett, of Rupert, Ida., and neice, Mrs. Thos. Wheeler, of Nampa, Ida. Mrs. Clyde Lvman is here for a visit with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. T. W. Atkinson. Mr. Lyman and his brother and father, have disposed of their interests at Goldendale and they expect to go to California to reside in future. Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Zeller went to Portland last week for a visit with rel atives and friends for business reasons. Gladyn Davis was taken to Portland last week and placed in a sanatarium for treatment for typhoid fever. At this writing he is reported very ill, but we hope soon to be able to tell of his satisfactory recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Craw, of Portland, spent several days laBt week looking after their interests at Udell. Unique invitations are out for an entertaniment at the home of Rev. and Mrs. T. W. Atkinson next Saturday evening. Mrs. Kelle Zeller and Mrs. Wendel, of Portland, are here for the apple harvest. Mrs. Wm. Ehrck, is reported improv ing very satisfactorily. She is now able to dispense with the services of the special nurse, but has not been removed from her private room. Lynn, Letha and Aubrey Davis have been ill with the measles. Gladys Crosby went to Cascade Locks last week for a few days' visit with her friend, Mrs. Scott Ballard. Mrs. Chas. Davis went to Portland Sunday to visit her son, Gladyn, who is very ill in a Portland sanatarium. The trial Karstertter vs. Pflughaupt last week resulted favorably for Kar stetter, but the defendants were not satisfied with this result and appealed. Udell was unusally fortunate Sunday and enjoyed a splendid sermon by Rev. Hansaker, of Hoed River, in the after noon and another by Rev. Crenshaw in the evening. There was also a C. E. meeting differing somewhat from the ordinary, but profitable. Next Sunday afternoon, Rev. Han saker will again be with the people of Udell. OAK GROVE L. H. Arneson and family, of The Dalles, are here looking after their ranch, and are the guests of Mrs. A meson's father, R. B. Lindsay. D. F. Stanfield and Charles Sherrell returned Sunday from a two days' hunting trip beyond Green Point with a fine 250 pound deer. John Lindsay is able to attend to his work as Fruit Inspector for the West Side, though his rheumatism has caused him considerable trouble of late. J. E. Hall and sister, Miss Jennie, returned Monday after spending few days in Eastern Uregon. A Halloween Dance will be given Friday evening, the 28th, in Uak Grove Hall, with Charles Fisher and Dow Stanfield as moving spirits. A son was born Sunday evening, Uetober 23, to Mr. and Mr. W. S. Crapper. DUKES VALLEY Jack Roberts returned to Duke's Valley Sunday, having been at work with a hay press near The Dalles. Mr. Scott is in our valley looking after his place. He cleared about 6 acres last winter and intends to clear more this season and set it to trees. Mr. Cherry raised a crop of spuds on the 6 acres he cleared last winter. Duke's Valley is without a Sunday school and as the Sunday School was postponed until some time in Ueto ber, why not revive it. Let all the offiers turn out on November 6 as well as every one else who is interested in this work. Mrs. D. P. and Miss Verna Shrum were calling in the valley last week We were glad to meet them and hope to see the time when they will make their home on their place here. Thomas B. Cameron, of Pine Grove, was visiting his brother, J. D. Cam eron, last Sunday. Tom is thinking of taking a visit to see his parents and other relatives in Illinois soon. MOSIER. Mrs. Amy L. Gove came up from Hood River Tuesday and resumed her duties as principal at the school Wed nesday. Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock, services were held at the residence ol Dr. and Mrs. R. M. Ross for their little son, "Bobbie," who passed away Tuesday in The Dalles. Rev. 1 'oling, of The Dalles, and Rev. A. C. Corbin, of Mosier, conducted the services. Friday morning the remains were taken to Portland for cremation. Mrs. S. D. Fisher went to Hood River Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. J, N. Mosier were in Portland this week. Henry Dunsmore, who has just re covered from a severe attack of ty phoid fever, came down from The Dalles Saturday evening. Henry looks a little thin, but his friends are glad to greet him again. D. One of the black bear that have been hanging around the Snyder pre mises all fall, was shot one day last week by C. Breedlove. He walked off with on fannies at the county fair at Goldendale, Miss Bryant, chief operator of t'u local exchange, entertained the oper ators of this place and Hood River with a whist party at her apartment! in the Guy t row home on Saturday evening. Four autoj currying the real estate dealers of White Salmon and their friends, crossed over the river on Wednesday and toured Hood River Valley viewing the orchards, and the pickers hard at it, picking the apples that make this part of the Northwest famous over the world. The autos that went over were the Dean and Rafter car, H. Day, Frank Kgan and Wm. Pratt. The boys report a fine trip and that apple picking over there is one of the big sights of the country.
