Real Estate Market Active In July.
July and August aro usually tbe
quietest months in tbe year for laud

the valley and some of tbem are mak
ing investments.

Juliet Got the Light.
At a small seaport town a star ac
tress of tbe third magnitude appeared
as Juliet.
"1 cannot do Justice to myself," she
said to the manager, "If 1 do not have
a limelight thrown on me when I ap
pear at the balcony."
"We nln't got no limelight, miss, but
I think we could get you a ship's blue
light," replied the obliging manager,
and to this the lady agreed.
The lad who went to the shop to buy
the blue light brought back a signal
rocket, which was given to him by
mistake. The prompter took the rock
et In good faith.
Borneo He jests at scara who never
felt a wound.
(Juliet appears. Prompter lights a
match.)
"But, soft! What light through yon
der windows breaks?"
(This was the match lighting the
fuse.)
"Arise, fair sun!"
The sun. or, rather, the rocket, did
rise with a terrific hiss. Juliet was
knocked off the balcony, the fly bor
ders were set on Arc, and the theater
was tilled with n sulphurous smoke,
while the audience, which was fortu
nately a small one, made a stampede
to the doors.
Since then "Romeo and Juliet" has
always been looked upon In that town
as a dramatic work that could not be
witnessed without personal danger.

Publicity for Washongal.
We are in receipt of a folder from
O. 8. Smith, secretary of tbe Wash
ongal Commercial Club, which sets
forth the advantage of that prosper
oui town on the Noitb iiank. It is
nicely illustated with views of or
chards, homes, water powei and live
stock totu the city and surrounding
oonuty. We quote the following:
"Wasbougal lies in fhe Southeast
ern corner of Clarke County, immedi
ately west of the Cascade Mountains,
and about 1(1 miles east of Vancouver.
The townsite is without question the
Quest on the Columbia Biver. Tbe
Wushougal Kiver, a large stieaui com
ing in from tbe northeast, turns west
and parallels tbe Columbia, torming
a peninsula about two miles long by
one wide, upon which Wa-hougal City
is situxted. Tbe site ie high, wltb a
gentle slope. The water supply for
'u town is obtained by siukmg a
well to a depth ot aboir. forty feet,
into whioh the cold mountain water
of tbe Wasbougal Biver filters through
half a mile of rock and gravel; tbe
supply cannot be exhausted and is
absolutely pure.
