ltee King A m axis at Apple Show
Perhaps the most unique act on tbe
umdeville bill at the National Apple
show is that of Professor Fiauk Odeli,
Ilia "bee wizaid,"' who enters a wire
cat! e containing 60,000 bees, every one
provided with a "stinger," the pro
fessor says, and takes nil kinds of
l-borMes with the insects. Professor
Udell is rn tbe stall of the Nebraska
htkte ooMegf, being au instructor in
pomology. He does not make bis liv
ing as a performer, because when be1
p not touching beengsgMS iu farming,
u.ying special attention to bee oul
tore, friends of Professor Odell say
that be was recently ottered $300 a
week to go on tbe staje, but declined.
Shedding bis hat and coat and roll:
iug up bis sleeves, tho professor eu.
tars the cage in which Ibe 00,000 bees
are. Inside tbeeugo is a box contain
ing a small hive, and there tbe insects
are busily at work wbeu the professor
enters.
Ibe professor kicks on tbe sides ot
tbe box and stamps on tbe top iu or
der to let tbe bees know tbat tbe show
is about to start. Ue then puts bis
hand) iu the hive and takes out baud-
tul after handful of the buzzing iu
sects. Some be tosses into his bat
aud then puts the bat on his bead.
Others he places on the back of hie
ueok. The professor does not fasten
his trousers at tbe bottom as most
people would do; under tbe oircum
stanoes, so tbe bees have carte blanche
to travel over bim by the trouser leg
route Jif tbey will. After Professor
Udell has taken every kind of liberty
witb tbe bees and permitting them to
