Robbed vSatimi inm TraEnsM
Our Fall Line of Ladies' Suits and Coats and Children's Coats was robbed in
transit and almost half of it stolen. It breaks the line of sizes, and as they were
not careful in replacing the goods in the box they are slightly mussed, and for
this reason we are making a very attractive price on the lot. Call in and look
them over. You will appreciate every article as a bargain : : : :

J. Adrian Epplng, who la one of tbe

the propoaed highway between heie

in good roadi generally for tbe valley,
atitted tbat be thought realdeota bere

possible in a'ny otber way. He want
ed to see not only this road built,
but a movemeut started foi good roads
In the valley at onoe. He stated
tbat be knew of a number of mtn
bere who would give large subsorlp
tlona toward the Portlaud-Hood Hirer
road, and tbat be was taking one
alwo to build four miles of good road
flora the ball park to tbe top of
Diivldson bill, and bad already met
with considerable suoooBi In raising
money for It. Ibis would be built at

I). L. Davidson addressed the meet

method along the highway in front of
his plaoe and for a long distance on
either aide ami tbat tbe good results
hud been surprising. After being
' treated in this way tbe road bad re

spring and also this summer.
As a rseult of the meeting A. J.
Epping, P. M. Hull Lewis and C. K.
Marshall will not in conjunction with
a committee from Multnomah county
to make a report and aa estimate of
tbe oost of building the highway be
tween bere and Portiaud.
It la atated that with tbe exoeptiou
of one point, tbe building of the pro
posed road would be comparatively
easy. Itie point referred to ia at
Shell Rook, between Hood River and
Casaode Looks. It ia aald, boweve,
tbat tbia can be made passable by
going down to a solid foundation
and building a retaining wall to keep
baok the sliding rock.
Cioing toward Poitlaod fiom Hood
River tbe present wagon road ends at
Viento. At this point a number of
years ago the railroad appropriated
tbe wagon road, on wbiub it laid its
tracks and wblob it still uies as its
road bed until nearing tbe town of
Cascade Look. It Is stated tbat the
railroad company was allowed to take
tbe publio blgbway, which was a part
of Tbe Dalles-Sandy Hate road,
witn toe understanding tnat it was
to replace it with another road. 'Ibis
It has never done, and an effort will
be made to discover If any such
agreement existed, and, If it does, to
ask tne cooperation or tbe railroad In
building tbe new roan through tbi
di ffloult part of the route.
" I be part nf the road to be built by
Huod Kiver county would extend
from Viento to tbe Multnomah Coun
ty Una wbion is a short distance above
ifonueville and 40 mllea form Poit
land. It Is stated by engineer Cann
on tbat Multnomah County already
baa a road by which It can leach
Bridal Veil, 28 miles from Portiaud
f rom tbeie to Tanner's Creek, a
distance ot seven miles, an entirely
new road would have to be ruilt,
which would onnneot with the old
state road, 5 mllea below Uouiievllle.
In all Hood Kiver county would
have about 25 miles ot road to build
repair or restore and MultnoniBb
about 40.
