la tba fliclsnt work tbey br been
doing for tbe city od l 'n-

If fery many realize tbe woik entailed
on them by their undertaking. Mat

thought and labor are being brought
before tbem, in addition to that of
.dminiiterlog the affair of tbe organ
ization. Tbflre ii s.aicely any pnbllo
matter tba la not abuUtUd io tbem
for aotion, and at times they are
placed In a position that is by no
meant enviable. The compiling, pub
liablng and distribution of advertising
matter io bebalf of tbe oommuoity is
noamallpartof tbeir duties and to
get tbe best results from this requires
both time and conoeutration. it was
due to tbeir untiring effoits, aided by
tbeir friends, tbat the alfair last week
to raise money for tbe club was suc
cessful. For these reasons tbe oflioers
of tbe club ought to receive the
whole-hearted support of tbe people
of both city and valley.
As public servant tbey have and
are serving tbe community at large
faithluUy. Sinoe tbe inauguration of
theolub'a publiolty campaign there
is not a propeity owner or business
man iu tbe whole valley who has not
received some benefit from their
work. Tbey bava advertised Its re
sources, been Instrumental In bring
ing capital and many desirable resi
dents Into tbe valley, maintained tbe
supremacy of Its fruit products, and
spread the name and tame of Hood
River In many new sections. They
bave in addition to this built up tbe
organization to a much larger mem
bership than it ever before had, and
given it a greater prestige with simi
lar organizations in tbe state than it
ever before possessed.
Personally tbey bave contributed
liberally to funds to do many of these
tbiugs a'ud bave seived tbe public
without oompeusatioo. As we bave
said before tbey bave to a large extent
been loyally supported. There are,
however, man? residents here in tbe
country districts wbo do ' not belong
to tbe organization. By joining tbey
' could swell tbe membership to several
hundred, increase tbe effective work
tbitt Is being done and give the otii
oeri a muoh needed support that will
ennonrase and help them in tbeir
work and help themselves and
the oommunltv at large at tbe same
time. ..- i .
Two big public events, both success
ful and well attended, indicate pros
perity and plenty at Hood River.
Reports on the apple crop from
many gectious abow that Hood River
Ii again in the front rank In the mat
ter of production and quality. While
other sections show a railing off or
only an average otop this year tbat
of Hood River will be larger by half
tbau in any former year.''
With over 400,000 apple" trees send
lug tbeir limbs ttkyward at Hood Riv
er it is not difficult to estimate tbe
apple crops of tbe future. At tbe
modest estimate of tour boxes to the
tree, in live yeara, tbe , output will
reach 2,000,000 boxes, or iu tbe neigh
borhood of 3,500 cars.
