The 36th annual reunion of the
Oregon Pioneer Association was held
In Portland Thursday, Junelt.
Sheriff Blakeley, of Umatilla coun
ty, last week brought to the peniten
tlry the SOth prisoner sent here from
his county in the last 18 months.
The Eugene School Board has re
elected L. R. Alderman City Super
intendent of Schools and Increased
his salary from $1400 to $1600 per
year.
Clyde Wilson, of Forest Grove,
who was shot through the neck a
week ago by Quong Lee, a Chineje
laundryman, died of his wounds Sun
day morning. (
Condon Is making extensive prep
arations for an old-fashioned Fourth
of July celebration. One of the fea
tures of the celebration will be the
holding of a market day and also
a broncho-busting contest.
Several thousand people attended
the first annual picnic of the Marion
County Modern Woodmen of Ameri
ca a- 1 Royal Neighbors In Salem last
week. It was a great success In
every particular.
Although Lincoln County went wet
by the very narrow margin of three
votes, the drys refuse to abide by the
decision of the votes and propose to
contest the result. There Is no ac
cusation of crooked work whatever.
Twenty-two graduates, the largest
class that baa yet left the Eastern
Oregon State Normal School, at Wes
ton, will be presented their diplomas
June 9 by E. Hofer, of Salem, rep
resenting tho board of regents.
Ex-Sheriff W. D. Bradford, of
HUlsboro, Is Improving physically,
but not mentally. Bradford was one
of the most efficient sheriffs the
county ever had, but was never right
mentally after the hanglnng of Qua
Wachline, who killed John Ledrlck
in the early '90's.
Tariffs have Just been published
by the O. R. ft N. announcing lower
rates on fruit baskets in carloads
having a minimum of 24,000 pounds
from Portland territory to all sta
tions on the Oregon Short Line. The
new rates range from 33 to 40 cents
por 100 pounds.
W. E. Grace, who has been presi
dent of the Citizens' National Bank,
of Baker City, has retired and will
be succeeded by F. P. Bodlnson of
that city. The bank began laying
the foundation for its new $30,000
home last week. Mr. Grace will re
move to Portland.
The Washington County Board of
County Commissioners has agreed to
expend no less than $1000 for a
county exhibit and for advertising
matter at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific
Fair, provided a private subscription
