Never-Falling Sponge Cake.

Beat three eggs Ave minutes, add
one and one-half eupa augar, beat live
mlnutea more and atir in one oup
floor sifted with one teaspoonful bak
ing powder, one cap boiling water.
Tben add one or more oops flour, sift
ed, and a teaspoonfol vanilla. Bake
10 minutes. ,
Philadelphia Scrapple.
Boil a cleaned pig's bead until tbe
flesh alipa easily fiom tbe bones. Re
move these and chop tbe meat fine.
When tbe 'liquor in wbioh tbe head
was boiled is cold take the fat from
tbe top, return tbe liqubi to tbe Are,
and when it boila put in tbe obopped
meat, well aeasoned with pepper and
aalt. Boll op and at it in oom meal,
a little at a time, and bring to tbe
tbickneaa of mush. Cook an boor,
turn out to cool and out in siloes as
needed.
Home-Made Sausage.
Six pounds of lean fresh pork and
three of fat ground together in a meat
chopper. To tbia add 12 teaspoonfula
of powdered sage, aix eaob of black
pepper and salt, two teaspoonfula each
of gruond cloves aod maoe and a grat
ed nutmeg. Mix well, paok all in
atone jars and pour melted fat on top
to exolade air.
Hard Times Cake.
Try this tor a bard times cake: One
and one-half oupi of augar, one oup ot
aoui milk or hot water, one teaspoon
fol of soda, one teaapoontol of cinna
mon and cloves, three scant cupa of
flour, one-half oop of batter or lard.
One oup of fruit or nuts may be added
If desired, but tbe cake is veiy good
without. Bake in a slow oven, ibis
ia called "Fruit Cake without Egga,"
or "Teddy Cake." Helper.
Old-Fashioned Dies.

tribute mine, which were osed in our
family for over 40 years, and have
been satisfactory.
Orange for Cotton.
Dip them in tbe yellow dye; make

In bnt water, let It settle, pour off tbe
clear water, put your rags into tbs
lime water over nlgbt, or till obanged
to orange. If it la too strong it ill
rot the rags.

First dip your isga in tbe yellow
dye, tben in tbe blue. Rinse and air
tbem. Dip again lu J be yellow and
then iu the blue, and so on until you
have tbe desiied shade. You will be
surprised at the number of shad' you
oan make so ording to tbe stretitgb
of your dye. Rinse ell well Iwfoie
drying. When year dye is neak do
not throw it sway. Color vnuie moie
It will be a very light and delicate
bade. You may shade your carpet
trips beautifully.
Blue for Cotton.
Two ounces prusalate potash; one
Ublespoonful of copperas la two gal

ful of oil ot vitriol Put youi rags
into tbe dye, wring tbem and dip
them again till you have tbe desired

Yellow for Cot ton.
One half pound of sugar of lead dia
aolved In halt a pail ot hot water; six
oa noes of bichromate of potash, dia
solved in one-bait pail of eold water.
When dissolved beat both. Dip your
rags Into tbe lead, then into tbe pot
ash, and ao on till you have tbe deair
ed abade. Rinse well and bang in tbe

washing through tbe first water about

washing balr, bave tbe rinsing water
just tbe same and lather thoroughly
again, never rinsing the aoap out. It

never bave any trouble at all.
Camphor for Sloths.
I saw in your oolumn a recommen
dation that wood aloobol and gam

bacon, pork and beef I put together
and make Saratoga chips in them.

Cleaning White Leghorn Hats.
Can you tell me how to clean a
white leghorn hat without spoiling it?
I have worn it a littie while and I
should like to clean It. M. M.
First of all, wipe clean from tbe
dust. Next, sponge witb lemon juice
and while it is damp rob into it fine
corn meal all it will hold. Leave it
on all day. Ihen brush it off and go
over tbe hat witb a olean sponge wet
witb peroxide of bydiogen. Set in
tbe sun, turning every half hour until
perfectly dry.
