With a solid support in this valley,
tbe election of J. L. Carter to tbe
legislature is assured. The large pri
mary vote Mr. Carter received all
over tbe oounty is an indication that
lie will run well in all preoinots, and
it will be repeated on eleatlon day.
Mr. Oodds, of Dufur, is also receiv
ing the loyal support of the Republi
can party throughout tbe county, aud
will he sent to tbe legislature with
Mr. Carter. The iuterests of tbe
oounty, as well as Hood River, can
safely be placed in their hands.

Rose Festival week will be the 00-mile
and 100 mile automobiles speed con
tests to be held during tbe afternoon
of Tbursdsy, June i. This will be tbe
greatest raolng event ever held on tbe
Pacific coast, tbe ooursu lying east of
this city, each lap being 14 miles aud
grandstand seating 10,000 people has
been erected In full view of tbe start
and finish of tbe races. No machines
will be allowed to enter wbiob are
not capable of a speed of 05 miles per
bour. Three magnificent silver trophy

before that case can be beard. This
case involves many thousands of dol
lars worth of valuable property aud

ment ot this particular locality is ser
iojsly injured by this delay, ibe
state ot Washington, our neighbor
right across tlin river, oommenced her
commonwealth as a state with Qve
judges on the supremo bench, yet her
supreme court in behind iu its work.

more than three judqes on the su
premo bench of this state and this
proposed amendment is in the furth
oi h uoo of justice and the demands of
a glowing commonwealth. Then lot

ment is adopted and that to cany this
out he should role "yea" on the offi
