GIVEN TO GROWERS
Ibe adjourned meeting of the Hood
River Horticultural Society waj held
in K. of P. hall Saturday afternoon.
B. K. Tucker was first on the pro
gram aud talked on tbe subject ot
pruning. Mr. luoker Is one of tbe
moat successful oicbardiata in this
valley, but bia method of pruning as
be explained it precipitated lively
discussions that were instructive to
tbe old-tlinera lu oiobard work aa well
ua to tbe amateurs.
A. 1. Mason gave his method of
oooking tbe iime-tulpbur spray. He
exhibited a sample of the liquid man
ufactured by himself which tested tbe
requited strength according to the
hydrometer. Mr. Maxou'a plaut for
manufacturing ttw spray cost bim
$82.50. He will save ha f tbe price of
bia outllt in making hia own spray
this year. Tbe cost to bim of mak
ing 50 gallon of the oondensed arti
cle is 13.37. He can make $50 a day
by manufacturing tbe spray. He
didn't believe in paying $12 to $15 a
barrel for water hauled all the way
from Omaha when just as good result -could
be obtained by making tbe for
mula at home at a cost of leas than
one-third.
An interesting paper on onrn orof s
in tbe -orchard was lead by l. L.
Roberts. Mr. Roberts was iuttoih.ofld
by A. I. Maaoii as a graduate from
tbe Oregon Agricultural College and
fiom Cornell University, aud who
bad uow oome to Hood Kiver to tin
isb bis education iu horticultural
studies. He was tendered a vote of
thanks end asked to allow hia paper
to be published iu Better Krutt. The
editor of Better Fruit will be asked
by the society to print Mr. ttoberta'
able article iu lull.
A. I. Mason was also given a vote
ot thanks for bis successful elforts in
demonstrating that tbe lime-sulphur
spray oan be made at home so much
cheaper than tbe imported articles.
E. L. Smith called attention to tbe
fact tbat this was tbe year oi our bi
ennial fruit fair to be held and that
it la none too soon now to begin prep
arations for i. He said the larce
canvas used for covering the fail
building iu tbe past was iu a state of
decay aud it iu doubtful if it will
serve its purpose again. Ho said a
suitable building large enough could
be ereqted for $1500, but where is tbe
site, wheie could a lot be purchased
in a suitable locality for holding our
fruit lairs?
Tbe inoetiug adjourned subject to
tbe call ot tbe new board of directors,
who will meet and orgnnize by tbe
election of officers.

Since making tbe announcement of
my candidacy for nomination at tbe
primuiy election for representative
to tho legislature, I have consulted
many of tbe voters of this county ot
all parties, aud I find a very go coral
sentiment among them in favoi of
auy system whereby the voters shall
directly express tbeircboice for Unit

tbe only method now provided ia tbe
one embodied iu tbe present primary
electiou law whereby the voters can
deteimiae who shall be United States
senator, and myfelt believing that the
cboioe of United States senator should
be left to the people, I unhesitating
ly declare it to be my purpose, and

Catarrh Cure, Cooper's Xine C's.
There are thosanuds of people who
uffer with Catarrh, butdo little or no
thing to remove the dread disease. This
neglect permits the disease to inflame
the Mucus Membrane and may affect
the nose, throat, lungs, stomach, bowels
or bladder. Cold aggravates Catarrh
aud if allowed to become chronic it leads
to Bronchitis and also to Consumption.
Fully forty per rent of the deaths in
America are from diseases of the air
passages. Use the Nino C's and be
cured It is also a sure cure for Croup,
Bronchitis, Colds and LaGrippe.
