In the debate tbe speakers were
limited to 30 minute eaon and Mr.

who waa not in favor of Statement
No. 1. irrespective oi party, and stat

Disastrous Fire on tbe Hill.
A tire wbicb resulted In tbe burn-
Ins ot the whole bout occurred Tues
day afternoon when F. M. Slaven'
bouse waa ablaze. Mrs. Hiaven wa
tired and waa lying down resting
when she amelled smoke in tbe next
room. She rushed In to find tbat
apparently tbe little child just able
to walk bad struck a matob at the
side of tbe bed, wbicb oaused Ibe
bedding to igolt and frightened tbe
child bo that it crawled under the
bed. Mrs. Slaven had such a bxid
time rescuing tbe child tbat tbe fire
bad a line obance to start before any
belo could be bad. A uelgbbor broke
window, climbed In and tbrew some
water on the blaze, but it waa of little
uae. Finally be got hose and went
to attaob it to an outside fauoet. only
to find tbe water turned off. An
alarm bad been sent In, but owing to
tbe distance and the fact tbat tbe tire
bad gained aucb headway it was Im
poeaible for tbe men to do anything,
though they made a much spaed aa
tOHSlble. Nothing was saved and
Mr. and Mrs. Blaven and family were
left with notbiug but wbat tbey wore.
Tbe Glacier extends its sympathy in
their trouble.

Is expeoted that a full recovery will
result.
The Powell family, who bave spent
