A Trip to I'wterwflod.
For some time I bad thought that
I would like to make a trip to Under
wood, Wash., and see that looality
myself, as 1 had often beard so much
about the country. A friend of mine
directed me to go to Mr. F. W. Oe
hnrt, who is a rauchor and real estate
mau, also a llaptist minister, of that
place, who showed me around iu that
neighborhood. As 1 was a little late
lu the morning In (hiding Mr. Dehart,
my timo was rather limited for lock
ing around aa much as 1 wished, but
anyway 1 was considerably suprised to
see eo nice a couutry.
1 was told by several that there waa
a great deal more laud north ot where
1 had beou that was just as nice as
what 1 hail tbe pleasure of seeiug.
All the farmers seem to be wide
awake and bustling aiound getting
more ground cleared out and cleaned
otf ready for berries, potatoes aud
fruit trees. A few ot tbe ranobea that
1 visited while iu that country were
as follows:
We went up on the hill to 11. F.
Heals. He baa the largest orchard ot
peach trees of any that 1 saw and tbey
are beginning to bud out quite lively.
Mr. Heals bad the misfortune to lose
his dwelling bouse last tall, but built
another right away and went ahead
witb bis work as though nothing bad
happened. While at bla place a heavy
tain oame upon us, which waa mixed
witb aome snowflakes. It did Dot
last long, however, and we were boob
down oo one of those nice lying flats
which will in a very few yeaia be all
under cultivation and raising fine
fruits.
II. Nelson baa a real nice new plaoe
of about 40 aorea on one of these nice
Oats. He baa already cleared out quite
large traot and baa it about ready
to put out to berries and potatoes and
tet to fruit trees.
Mr. Debart la aituated on tbe same
flat witb bis neighbor, Nelson, but
has not quite ao much of bis land
oleared out yet, aa be has beeu build
ing a new bouse and haul, and uiov
log into tbe new borne.
We visited Mr. Cromwell's ranch,
which la near the edge of tbe of the
bill looking over into the White Sal
mon river. He Is one of tbe county
commissioners and is also taking up
the fruit Industry like bis neighbors.
We also went to Mr. Kellendouk's
ranch. Ha baa been In the country a
little longer than some of the others
and baa more ground cleared out aud
more fruit trees into bearing. Near
bis plaoe waa N.'M. Munch running
bis grubbing machine oo Mr. Uibb'a
raqen. Henry Felling is foreman of
tbia ranch, as Mr. Uihhs lives iu Ida
bo. 'Tbey were pulling up tbe stumps
on tbla ranoh, piling them up and
olearing the ground ready for fruit
trees.
Down on tbe lower flat near tbe rail
road we visited the home of II. C.
Debo. Here the berries and garden
truck were farther advanoed than any
plaoe we bad seen.
Near tbla plaoe la where P. T. Flu
ley Uvea on a nioe ranch aud here the
fruit treea are in line condition. We
saw several treea in full bloom, which
made everything look beautiful. He
la living near the station called Hood
on the North Dank road.
We next visited the fish hatohery,
wbiob la in obarge of Henry Hollo as
manager. He expects to stay at tbia
place until some time In May agd take
oare ot and feed tbe fish which tbey
have on band, and get them to a larg
er size before tbey turn them loose
to rustle tor themselves.
He la working several men at this
place lu tbe industry. He expecla to
go from tbia plaoe to Oregon City,
Ore., wbere be will take op tbe work
at that point for awnile.
In our rounds of the day we visited
the hotel in Underwood, wbere we
bad very flne dinner and got ac
quainted witb Mrs. Harry Olaen, wbo
Is tbe proprietor of the only hotel of
tnat plaoe.
We then went to the large general
store owned and run by M. 8. Smith,
wbo also runa the postomc in one
corner ot tbe store.
1 came across tbe river at the ferry
run by Henry Oleen, wbo baa been In
the business for aome time aud under
stands bis business. II. Taylor.
Catarrh Cure, Cooper's Nine C's.
There are thosanuds of people who
suffer with Catarrh, but do little or no
thing to remove the dread disease. This
neglect permits the disease to inflame
the Mucus Membrane and may affect
the nose, throat, lungs, stomach, bowele
or bladder. Cold aggravates Catarrh
and if allowed to become chronic it leads
to Bronchitis and also to Consumption.
Fully forty per cent of the dentha in
America are irom diseases or tlie air
passages. Use the Nine C's and be
cured It is also a sure cure for Croup,
