Indian Mother of 14 Children Dies
at 111.
Rainier, Marob 9. Mra. Julia Ruby,
the old Indian woman famous fot ber
age and endurance, died bera at the
age of 111 years. Mia. Rnby belonged
to tbe Tanmuters and Cascades tribe.
She married a white man io ber early
years and was the mother of 14 chil
dren. Mrs. Ruhy wna aotiva up to
ber last moment, and at tbe age of
110 years suffered a broken arm,

What Happened to the Stupid Onaa
When They Went to Play.
There were five little field mice.
Their mother was very wise, and on
day when they went out to play aha

surprised and began to ask each other

would have been much better to ask
their mamma, but they were very little.
Just then their mother saw a hawk
In the sky and chirped. One poor little
mouse got frightened and forgot all
about what she said, nnd one dived
down into a hole. Unfortunately there
was a weasel In that hole, and tbe
weasel got him. Another ran off and
got lost In the grass nnd never was
found again. Another ran and tried
to bide under a leaf, and a hawk
swooped down and ate bim np. An
other Jumped Into the bushes and a
snake swallowed him. Tbe fifth stay
ed qnite still, and, though he did not
know It, he looked so like a withered
leaf that neither snake nor the weasel
nor the hawk saw him at alL
