W. F. Lara way in October, 1006, was

Harold, tbe tbree-year-old sou of
Mr. and Mr. Fike, in the PineUiove
district, died Saturday, February 1,
ot scarlet fever and was buried Mon
day at Idiewllde, Rev. W. C Gilmore
officiating at the private funeral at
th residence. The little fellow con
tracted tbe disease while Mr. Fike
wa in tbe east and wben it took a
serious form he was wired to return,
wbioh be did. Complications set in
after tbe fever bad run its ooorse and
it wa impossible to save bim. The
bereaved parents bave tbe sympathy
of tbe commnnity in tbeir bereave
ment. :

Rivei lodge of Knight of Pythias at
tended tbe Eighth District Conven
tion of tbe ordei at The Dalles Satui
day evening. In a competitive drill
in tbe initiatory work of tbe third
degree, Hood River won, oarrying oft
tbe prize by several points. The local
team is said to be among tbe best in
the slate and tbey aie now entitled to
compete for the honors before tbe
meeting ot lbe grand lodge In Port
land in Jnne, and will probably enter
tbe contest at tbat time.
The meeting waa held in tbe K. of
P. ball at The Dalle, with District
Deputy Frank Menefee in charge.
Resides tbe large delegation from
Hood River there were delegates fiom
all over the eastern part ot tbe state,
beside Grand Chancellor Wall, or
Hillsboro, Urand K. ot R. and 8., L,
R. Simpson, of Salem, and W. M.
Cake, ot Portland. Tbe next conven
tion for tbia distriot will be beld at
Hood River next year.
A fine banquet follow d tbe lodge
exercises and good speeches were en
joyed, Frank Menefee acting as toast
master. Tbe Hood Kiver delegation
