News was received here last week that David Vannet, ot Fertile, Minn., who visited Hood River for the first time a tew weeks ago, and who in tended to make this his future home, died suddenly at Urand F rks, N. Aa aoon as tlioy got their apples eaten they began tbe raoko again during which time Robert bad passed arouud some very nice looking sweitened popoorn to tbe men in tbo, taouso, wbo began eating at once and weie surprised on learning at once that the corn was oovered with quinine. The party then bad the laugh on the men, but they soon parsed around some good popoorn, older, cakes and ap ples. About tbe time that tbey were finishing their treat the boys came back outside with Ihe racket again, tben Bobeit gave them a treat of tht popcorn with quinine on it. The boys ate some of it in a hurry and in a abort time one of the boys discov ered the bitter taste and yelled out, "This corn is doped." 'they soon decided that tbey had enough and left 'for home. The crowd in the house staid until about teu o'clock and enjoyed the evening laughing and talking. Robert and wife thought some of trying to dodge tbe orowd and playing off on them that nlglit, but tbey knew If tbey did that the crowd would oatcb them some oth time so tbey stood their grounds and took the fuss and enjoyed the tun with the jolly orowd of lloosiere.
