ANNUAL MEETING
II. R. C. CLUB
ARRANGEMENTS FOR BANQUET
New Itoard Hefted and Important
l!e.oliili n raised Import
iini Vear's Work.
The udjourned annual meeting of
the Couiiuercibl club was held a. the
club renins Thuisday evening, with a
fair nttendauce.
Verl.al re irts of the secretary and
trosBt ier v.um made, and a commit
tee tppt i. ted to audit the books of
the jeer and treasurer aud report
at t!:e n : nteuiiug.
P. S. .fattdson, chairman of the
.Ly euiijiiilt tee, made a verbal
report of the work done by that com
mittee, lie reviewed the work done
by the oommittue, aud outlined plans
for the future, whiob are under way.
The committee has raised a special
fund tor advertising purpose, and
hired a secretuiy at f Co a mouth to
take care of correspondence, and over
2000 letters have been written to in
quirers about lfood River. A leaflet
was tlrst printed and distributed
among business men and others, for
putting iu letters, and also 00O0 copies
of a ver;. nicely written aud printed
booklet, which was being rapidly sent
out to nil poiuts of the oniupat to
parties interested in the valley. It
was receiving mauy compliments aud
doing much good. Adveitit-euients
were also placed In the Paoitlc Mouth
ly and the Pathfinder. From oue is
sue of the Pacitlo Monthly a large
number of inquiries were received,
but they bud hoard very little from
the oilier. One of the important feat
ures ot the vork of the committee was
the plan for erecting a permunent ex
hibit booth uear the depot. PerinU
slon had neon reoeivud and a lease
uii.de out for placing the booth on
the grouuds of thu O. R. & N., but
permission whs refused for selling
anything from the booth, so it was
decided to put the buildiug at the
edge of the walk near the Mt. Hood
depot, so that the committee would
not be haunpered I r the rules of the
railroad company, ai d the locution is
as gold as the one originally Intended
on the railroad light of way. The
booth had been placed in the hands ot
Joa. A. Wilson, who -ban already se
cured apples for the b;i!;uice ol this
season. Plans of the bnlldii;g will bo
furnished by P. M. Uall-Lewis, audit
will bo a neat, substantial, ornament
al structure. It i'J intended to make
the booth self-supporting by selling
the fruit on display..-
A report of the building committee
was also made. P. M. Hall-Lewis was
added to the committee aud presented
a sketch of a proposed commercial
club building, to occupy the corner
lots, owuoil by 11. 1''. Davdisou, oppo
site the Wuucoiua hotel. The plans
culled for n fall basement, whiob it
was proposed to use for the permanent
fruit fair exhibit, and oo aooouut of
toe slope of the ground towards the
depot, would be on the grouud floor
on the Second street side. The first
floor would . he fitted up with store
rooms. The second floor would cou
tain looms for the use of tho commer
cial club, two otlic'8 for rent, aud the
bulcocy for an opera bouse. Ibe maiu
floor of the op. ra house would be
back of the store rooms. The extreme
length of the lot of the west side, be
ing about 130 feet, makes a triangu
lar shape to that end, which would be
particularly adapted to a theater aud
itorium, placing the stage in the cor
uer. The estimated cost of the build
ing wnuld he about $;!.". 000, including
tbe land. I lie proposed aicliitectuie
would be concrete, to cnufoim to the
Davidson building, aud it was stated
that Mr. Davidson would till In the
gup between the two buildings in tbe
near future with a similar building,
making a continuous front on Cascade
Hcotiue of the same kiud.
The committee on public dock fa
cilities, through the chairman, J. L.
