the support of all regardless of just
what particular spot shall be first im

all roads are good just so much near
er out door. The wonderful improve
ment made by treating a bit of bad
toad to a ooat of gravel 1b easily seen
by comparing the Davidson bill as it
now is with the some road throe years
ago, and we should willingly pay our
share of the added tax such work
brings.
The C. E. meeting Sunday evening
was in the nature of a Thanksgiving
sbrvice. There was a song by a double
quartet that deserves special mention,
also a spooial song by P. T. Shelley.

In spite of the snowtall that day,
quite a number of visitor! attended
aud expressed themselves as pleased
with the way the children aoquitted
themselves.
Tbe school sent quite donation to
tbe Boys' and Girls' Aid society. Tbe
principal donations were apples, po i
tatoes, pumpkins and canned xi mt.
One dollar and fifty cents in money
was sent. The donations woold bave
been muob larger if there bad been
any way for the children to get their
otterings to tbe wbool bonse. Tbe
sobool in tbe Steele distriot, Mr Ew
ing teacher, also made a generous do
nation. Mr. Fiedeubnrs kindly took
tbe goods to Hood River, gratis, and
we hope it went on to Portland from
there.
Iba Thanksgiving dinner given by
tbe Mt. Hood ladies waa a complete
sucoess. There was suob an abund
ance of good things and it wa4 served
in such elegant style by tbe charming
waiters that tbe many who attended
went away contented and bappy. Most
of tbe housekeepers took their fami
lies out tor their dinner, and all the
bachelors flocked to the feast, so
nearly all Mt. Hood partook of the
nounteous repast there is much
work connected with suob an affair,
and tbe ladies deserve muob credit
for provdiing suob au entertainment.
Tbey netted $311.30 for tbe newoburob
building, which by tbe way, is to be
completed in a very few weeks.
Thanksgiving was a day of rejo'O-
ing all round for in tbe eveuing the
Cathollo ladies took charge ot tbe
ball, adn a gave a very successful bas

was good, and the men y crowd stayed

Capt. 11. C. Cook departed last
Monday for San Franoisco, where be
will probably remain for several
weeks.
Dr. M. A. Jones, dentist, will be in
White Salmon Thursday and Friday,
December 5 and 6, prepared to do all
kinds of dental work.
The Cook's Addition Lightning
Express is tbe name of tbe vehicle
gotten up for the purpose ot bringing
the children of that suburb in to
sohool during the bad weather. About
25 pupils are brought in by tbis ve
hicle every morning. Mr. Herman Is
the driver and tbe outfit is furnished
by tbe direotora.
Mrs. A. D. Maine returned to ber
home in White Salmon after spending
about a year in tbe east visiting with
her obildren. Mr. Maine and their
daughter, Veinie, went to Hood Riv
er .o meet her. Thev are vert clad to
