A fire alarm waa sent in Tuesday evening at 12 o'olock by A. N. Kahm, wbo was on bis way home trom the oity. Aa be came near tbe Hood Kiv er laundry be discovered a small blaze coming from tbe building, and upon examination found that there was a fire between tbe boiler and one ot the sleepers on whiob it rests. 'l'he;inter ior of the building was somewhat ohared but no great damage was done. Tbe fire oompany responded promptly to the call and appeared witb tbe chemical engine, but upon their arrival ';bey found tbe lire un der control. Several men had procur ed buokets and bad suooeeded in quenching the flames. Visits Hood Iliyer. Wm. A. Taylor, chief of the pomo logical department ot tbe United States, at Washington, D. C, visited Hood Kiver last Friday and Saturday. Mr. Taylor wa4 met at the train by Hon. E. L. Smith, who took him for a drive over tbe valley. Born.
