Tbe Hood River Business Men's as sociation will bold a meetingg in the Commercial club rooms on next Tues day evening. A rousing meeting is anticipated. Messrs. Franz, Bragg and Cram were appointed on a pro gram oommittee and will have some obing of interest to present. A spa tial oommittee consisting of Messrs. MoOonald, Huggins and Niokelsen will also be ready to report on matters assigned to them. 'The matter of tbe road between Hood River and Moeier will lie discussed, also matters apper taining to tbe advertising department will be up for bearing. You are most earnestly requested to be present. COMMON COUNCIL HAS BUSY SESSION All members of tbe oounoil were present except Councilman Watt. Tbe minutes of tbe previous meet ing were read and approved, and tbe reports of the treasurer and reo rdet accepted and placed on file. Tbe street committee repotted that they has examined a couple ot gravel pits and also a rook crusher to some ex tent, and asked lor further time, wbiob was granted. Judge Henderson reported that be bud bad a conference with tbe right-of-way man of the O. R. & N. in regard to tbe city's light to tbe foot ot Oak street, and that tbe ageniforthe company thought th t tbe mattor would be adjubted tn tbe satisfaction of tbe city, and would so recommend. Most of tbe business men on Oak street, between Secoud and Third, were signers on a petition to buiJd a sidewalk ooross the street about half way in the block, at their own ex pense, which was granted. A remonstrance against extending tbe sewer at tbis time was presented, with numerom signers, and the same leferred to tbe eewet committee, who will take time to consider the mutter, Ordinance No. 117, giving D. Mo Donald a franchise to lay water mains In the streets, was reported bnck fav oiably by the committee on 'J re and water, and tbe same paswd its first reading. An ordinance was introduced to give a tiaucliise to the Northwestern Telegraph & Telephone company, and tbe same passed its first reading. The company asking the franchise is tbe new company operating in Port end with automatio phenes, and ex pect to have long distance connec tions between here and Portland some time this summer. The ordinance making the second sewer assessment was passed, as was also the ordinance establishing tbe grade on Pite street. An ordinance establishing tbe grade on State street, from Park toPuiadise was passed. O. C. Dean was present, asking the aid of the oouucii in maintaining a publio road to tbe ferry lauding, and Judge Henderson spoke in bis behalf. Mr Henderson stated that Dean & Pearson bad been served witb an in junction by tbe new terry company from landing on the Underwood road, as they had bought the land and claimed that there was no publio road. Dean & Pearson bad in turn bad tbe new company enjoined from operating a ferry on tbe river. Mr. Henderson took the view that it was ot great im portance to . The Davenport brothers were over to the auction sale at the Byrkett ranch on last Friday and Saturday, and became heavy purchasers of a fine lot of cuttle. They secured about 30 bead of tbe best Jersey cattle on tbe fila e. Ibis bunch Is worth from $100 to S100 per head. It is tbe intention to take tbe stock oa to tbeii farm in Crook county, near Bend. Mark Dev. enpoit will have obarge of tbe cattle. The boys have a large farm in the Bend country, and have about 400 acres in alfalfa bay, which will out from five to seveu tons per acre. They expect to engage in stock raising on a large scale, aud will only bleed tbe best. They are planning to stock tbe farm witb .horses, sheep and cattle.
