HOOD RIVER GLACIER, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1006
ABSOLUTELY PURE
Healthful cream of tartar, derived solely from
grapes, refined to absolute purity, is the active
principle of every pound of Royal Baking
Powder. . ,
Hence it is that Royal Baking Powder
renders the food remarkable both for its fine
flavor and healthfulness.
No alum, no phosphate which are the
principal clement of the lo-called cheap
baking powder -and which are derived
from bones, rock and sulphuric acid.

Mr. Rahm on Connty Division.
To tbe Editor Aa the regular bien
nial agitation for a division ot Wasco
oounty has begun a lew word to "my
fellow citizena" concerning tbia vexed
question may now be in order. 1
snail endeavor to diverge from the
beaten and hard trodden road of sta
tistics and together with the oppo
nents to the division meander down
the luminous path of logio and rea
son. Asjto thenatural geographical divis
lona between tbe mother county aud
her prospective offspring there exists
prnotloally none. The mountain
ridges, whioh some persona proclaim
to be natural divides, may in the fu
' tare be found to be aa well, or better,
'adapted to fruit culture aa the lower
levels, on account of their higher alti
tudes, which certainly incieasea the
keeping quality of tree fruit, provid
ed, however, that shelter from the
wlnda and water for irrigation can be
found.
Aa long aa Cacsade county can pre
sent a reasonable extent of tillable
land to tbe ooming thousands who are
now aettiug their facea toward the
Ureat West to aeek homes, comfort,
wealth and health, there la little need
of worrying about the geographical
lines.
But there dbea exist other lines,
whioh are distinct enough even for an
aborigine to discern, that are of more
importune tban tne pbyaioal ones,
however desiiable it would be to es
tablish a Chinese wall between the
two counties. t
First, there la the line which maiks
the extensive and intensive methods
of persuading mother earth to furnish
her children all that for whioh. I be
lieve, man waa placed here on this
mundane aphere, home, comfort, hap
pineaa and the social advantaaes da
rived from congenial fellowship with
xinarea spirits.

Now, friends, follow me further and

Is your best 'asset. Proper health is most

Pure air is an absolute necessity,, and no

"Where open-flame illuminants rob tlie nir

pure air is an impossibility.
' Air poisoned by the flame of u gas jet, or
that of an oil lamp is unfit for breathing

effect upon the occupant of the room.
Electric Light burning in an air-tight bulb
leaves the nir of the room pure and fresh,
