HOOD RIVER GLACIER, THUKSDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1006 i j ! i I I j ? J ;. t 5 ! li 4 I 1 "OOP RIVER GLACIER 7ud trv Tbarsday kf ARTHUR D. MOB. PabHabar. Mil I I HI ' fssma smb.crlptloe-ll.sS a J VM advance. THURSDAY. NOV. 22. 1906. Acoording to Mr. Lownsdale Wil lamette valley apples are just as good ' m Hood River's except in ihiipe, col or and other things that make tbe lat ter worth more. : If you can help the county division movement by circulating a petition among your friends don't bae to be Invited to do ao. Ask for a petition and get busy. Putting dynamite on tbe railroad track la not exactly a joke and It it possible that this faot may be brought to tbe attention of tbose who are guilty of tbe act In a way tbat will make a lasting Impression. While the ci(y eleotion li but two weeks away very little interest seems to be taken in it, although three oounoilmen, a mayor, recorder and city treasurer are to be chosen. " Is it a case of tbe office seeking the man? At the meeting held last Saturday to consider county division tbe town people were forced into tbe back ground by the residents of tbe valley who were most vociferous in asking for the new county. As they are real ly the ones wbo are most interested we suppose tbey ought to have tbe loudest say so and incidentally do a little of tbe work. Pet a petition. Get Petition. While it it very apparent that there li scarcely any one wbo Is a resident of the proposed new county who is not in favot of county division the fact is also quite as obvious tbat talk ing will not accomplish it. If you want tbe new county take an active Interest in the movement and get oth ers to do tbe same. It will be neces sary to secure the signatures of the majority in tbe district to the petit ions that are being circulated and one or two or a halt dozen men cannot cover all the territory or see all those interested A big committee baa been appoint ed to assist in tbe work, but even it cannot accomplish all tbat Is expected of it without the hearty co-operation of many others. Tbe members and offloers of the Commercial club ex pect that many will volunteer their sei vices to help aloDg the movement and muoh to their sa'lsfaotion a num ber have already done so irrespective of creed or party. This is most promising and shows a spirit that can not help but bring results. Nevertheless too many can not take up this part of the work as tbe time before the legislature meets is short and theie is tnnob to be done. If you will simulate a petition send In your name to tbe club or call on oue of Its offloers who will supply it. DON'T FORGET APPLES FOR PORTLAND'S POOR PUT DYNAMITE ON MT.
