S. U. Soule, the piano man. has

Matt Kusseli, and renovated and re
papered it. He baa moved bia stock
of piauos and other instruments in
the store and will oocupy it in the fu
ture. An old fashioned chicken sapper

since it invoivea the permanent re
moval of tbe family of W. U. Moody

Moody borne, in which ex-Governor
and Mrs. Moody reared their family,
will no doubt be occupied by other,
which causes a feeling of regret to
their old time friends. They will,
however, be inseparably linked with
tbe interests of The Dalles in a busi
ness way and are still well represent
ed by their ton, Hon. M. A. Moody.

Results show that the election
which was held yesterday in many
states was a Republican viotory and
that the Republican majority iu con
gress will not be out down. Iu Now
York v here tbe greatest interest cen
tered H ?hes, tbe Republican candi
date, was eleoted over Hearst by a
majority of 50,000.

Died Suddenly.
Jus. McGiunis, who was visiting Lis
brother, D. L. MoUiunis, at Menomi
nee, died there very suddenly Tua
daty Ootober 31, of acute storrnnb
trouble. The funeral took lace
Thursfday morning at 10 o'clock,
Rev. W. U. uilmore conducting the
services, and interment whs in Idle-
wilde cemetery. Mr. Met tlnnis was a
native of Ontaiio, Can,, and had buen
in this locality but three months.
Fire Causes Slight Damage.
A fire in tbe woodshed back of tbe
residence belonging to S. F. lily the
occasioned considerable excitement
and apprehension Thursday after
noon. The origin of tbe conflagution
is not known, but for a time it bent
tbe fire company, which promptly le-
spouded to the alarm, quite busy to
subduing it. It was extinguished
by chopping holes in tbe roof iiud
playing a stream of water on it. The
ladders recunty received with the new
tire apparatus demonstrated tbelr use
fulness. Apart from charring some
wood and sight damugo to the roof
the loss was tiiiliug.
